Lab: Post a summary of your group’s progress on the blog, with an image or screenshot of the work in progress.

Get ready for the Midterm Quiz on 10/24, make sure you understand the Glossary and the Readings.

Lab: Post the wireframes / concept sketches on the blog, and write a summary explaining them and your progress. Images need to be at least 540px wide.

Read John Maeda, “Time,” p. 22-31.
How can we shrink time when a user interacts with an interface? What do you think about letting a machine make choices for you? What is one way you’ve figured out how to save time?

 

HW #4 Due 10/3 at 2pm:

Lab: Post the Design Document and Flowchart on the blog. Flowchart needs to be at least 540px wide. Remember to list your teammates!

Read Edward R. Tufte, “Graphical Excellence,” p. 13-25.
Choose one of the images from the reading. Create a blog post: What is working about the image? Is there anything unnecessary or any information you think is missing? Have you seen any designs where you’re paying more attention to the aesthetics than the information?

 

HW #3 Due 9/19 at 2pm:

Finish blog posts for Lab #2:
1. What place did you observe?
2. Photo(s) of the place
3. Summarize what was going on there and who you interviewed
4. Four personas
5. Who was in your group?

Read John Maeda, “Emotion,” p. 62-71.
Create a blog post that answers these questions:
What do you think of Maeda’s observations on simplicity and emotion?
How can designing for emotion foster engagement?
Is there an object or design that you are attached to?

Read Bill Moggridge, “People,” p. 664-681.

Choose a method from one of these sections: Learn, Look, Ask, Try. Create a blog post, at least 350 words: What method did you choose? How would you use it? What sorts of projects would it be appropriate for?

Read Donald Norman’s “The Psychopathology of Everyday Things,” p. 1-8.

Join Interaction Design on OpenLab!
Create a blog post with the following:
A paragraph on what you thought about the reading;
A paragraph on a similar design/useability problem you’ve discovered. (Does your grandmother still have trouble with the microwave? Is there a feature in your phone that doesn’t make sense? Is there something that could be improved in the CityTech email? Etc…)
