Part 2- Summary

In the article “Schools Are Killing Curiosity”: why we need to stop telling children to shut up and learn, by Wendy Berliner is about how students are less interested in the topics going on in school and lacking curiosity . The writer states, children from underprivileged backgrounds showed the greatest link between curiosity and performance compared to the children who come from wealthier families. Wendy Berliner mentions that curiosity is natural in children and kids can ask what seems like an endless stream of questions; it’s one of the most important ways that people learn. Berliner also does draw attention to the fact that teachers are here for curiosity but some aren’t to good at encouraging there students. The writer shows a descriptive scene of a nursery school, in Bristol where they took the toddlers toys and swapped them with home items. This elevated the kids curiosity and made them use their imagination. Wendy Berliner concludes by speaking on Paul Howard-Jones, who said, schools should devote more time to encouraging students’ creativity and letting them follow their curiosities.

  1. SUper late HW. Your writing needs to be more clear. One example of unclear writing: about how students are less interested in the topics going on in school — huh?
