Making the Connections: Networking Mixer 4/18

Want a safe space to practice your communication skills, highlight your academic experiences, and get a conversation started with a professional? Join the Professional Development Center (PDC) – Career Services, ASAP/ACE, and the CUNY LEADS Program for “Making the Connections: Networking Mixer” on Thursday, April 18th from 1PM – 2:30PM.

Introducing and speaking to others about yourself can seem terrifying – but practicing can be rewarding, personally, and professionally.

To make the most of your networking experience:

  • Dress in business casual clothing
    • A good summary of what this means from indeed.com
  • Prepare your elevator pitch in advance
    • City Tech’s PDC documents take you through the 5 steps here
  • Have icebreaker questions to ask (see below)
  • Did you have a mentor? How did you find your mentor?
  • Did you have an internship? What 3 things did you get out of your internship experience?
  • How did you land your first job? Was it through networking?
  • What did you think you were going to do in your career after high school? Did your plan change?
  • What is it that excites you most about your job or industry?
  • Is there anything that surprised you about the industry you are in?
  • What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?
