Objective: The objective of this assignment is to develop students’ skills in generating and visualizing ideas for print advertisements through the creation of thumbnail sketches. By exploring various concepts and compositions in sketches, students will practice effective communication of visual concepts and develop a foundational understanding of layout and design principles in the context of print advertising.
- Research and Inspiration: Students will begin by conducting research on effective print advertisements across various industries. They will analyze layout designs, visual elements, and messaging strategies employed in successful ads. This research will serve as inspiration for their own design concepts.
- Brief Understanding: Students will review the provided brief in assignment 1 Part A, which outlines the goals, target audience, messaging, and specifications for the print ad designs they create.
- Thumbnail Sketching: Using pencil and paper or digital sketching tools, students will generate a minimum of 10 sketches for the print ad design. Sketches should explore different visual concepts, compositions, and typography treatments relevant to the given brief. Each sketch should be labeled with a brief description or annotation explaining the intended concept.
Submission: Please bring 10 sketches that are ready to be discussed in class on 2/22.
