Unit 2 Reflection

Write a short reflection (approx. 150-200 words) on the research process and what you learned. In your reflection, consider the following questions: What did you find difficult about doing this type of research? In doing this type of research, what did you learn that you can take to future classes?

While conducting my research, I came across several statistical facts that were new to me. I discovered that the percentage of social media users has increased from under 50% to over 50%. Although this may seem like common knowledge, the statistics are quite shocking when viewed in detail, especially with data from the 2000s which is quite recent. I found it difficult to find sources that were not biased and I also wanted to make sure it was based on recent research as I wanted to stay relevant and in real time.

In doing research, what I found most difficult was pretty much everything. I haven’t finished my paper yet either. I still have to find one more source. Aside from that, what I found difficult during my writing process is meeting the word count. When explaining the quote, I feel like I’ve said enough after like 2 sentences, but looking at the required word count makes me realize I probably haven’t said enough.

I learned that research isn’t something I can do quickly and that I have to take my time finding sources and that.

During the Unit 2 assignment, I feel that the research process was a little bit of an easy assignment, however, it also became somewhat of a challenge. The reason why researching my topic was a mix was because I had to find sources that came directly from New York rather than trying to find a different source from somewhere else. The reason why my source had to be from New York is that it would be best to get someone’s first-hand account of the issues that they face while taking public transportation. It also became difficult because there were a few cases where people would use their own personal opinions rather than stating facts which also became a bit challenging. From doing this research assignment, I learned that it is very important to take down the most important detail from the document that you are looking at because it would allow you to find the main idea of the article as well as to find ways you could relate it back to your argument.

After reading articles regarding my research topic I have learned that there might be a bigger percentage of people that go everyday with sleep deprivation and find it normal. My research has given me more knowledge about how important sleeping can really be and how it has caused so many accidents and death in the road or other public areas. What was more difficult regarding this writing was getting to put all the information into a proper sentence without repeating myself as there was so much information from the article. I have definitely learned more about the scientific side of sleep deprivation and it’s health affects on everyone of us .

My time with the research process was short. Mostly because I had no topic for the entirety of the time we were doing the assignment until the final week. Even then, the research only got me to where everyone was just saying mostly the same thing with only a few extra details here and there. I probably just didn’t look deep enough, but it could have also been that my topic was just a terrible research topic. Throughout this whole thing, I can’t really say I even learned anything. The thing I struggled with the most was how to summerize each source that I had without it sounding almost the exact same as all of my other sources. That problem probably wouldn’t exist if I just had better sources though.

During my research, it was difficult trying to find different responses that were the same as the major information everyone provided. Also finding reliable sources was a bit hard, trying to figure out if the data was updated to what women with PPD are now suffering and how it’s affecting their children’s development. One of the major things I learned throughout this research was that depression can be easily passed down to the child if the mother does not created a bond while she’s suffering from PPD.

Doing research on the impact of social media on mental health was an eye opening experience for me. One of the difficulties I encountered was finding credible and relevant sources. Another challenge was synthesizing the information from different sources and presenting it in a coherent and organized manner. It required careful reading and note-taking to extract the key points and arguments from each source. I also had to critically analyze the information and identify any biases or limitations in the research. Through this research process, I learned the importance of critically evaluating sources and considering multiple perspectives. It is crucial to approach research with an open mind and be willing to challenge preconceived notions. In future classes, I will apply the skills I learned in conducting research, such as finding credible sources, critically analyzing information, and synthesizing multiple perspectives. These skills will be valuable in any academic discipline and will help me develop a well rounded understanding of complex topics.

During the process of my research, I learned more about the positive and negative impacts technology has on society. One benefit of technology would be easy access to information and one of the downsides of technology is sleep deprivation. Something I found difficult when doing my research was finding sources in different genres.

I learned that you can discover a topic and so much information on it from it being to positive to negative. But also there different points of views on certain topics, I also learned new things like the fact there is a screen time limit on tik tok for kids that are under 18 where they have to type in a password after a couple hours of scrolling on tik tok and that’s supposed to make them think about the amount of time they been on tik tok. Something i found difficult is trying to grab information from the articles and the news because most of them didn’t talk much about different troubles, most were short i it were longer readings I would’ve been able to grasp more on the topic. basically the summarizing of each reading. What I learned that I can take to future classes is that while making research and seeing what information you can find on a topic and while doing the research you can find other views where it can alter your thought, so now I know that I can the proper sources to support my opinion.

During the 2nd assignment, i felt that the research was pretty easy since i got all of my articles from when we went to the library. Therefore i just had to write down the facts that i learned in each other topics and annotate them. While reading i was learning about how parenting can cause an impact on children as they grow up and it can be negative towards them when they are on their own later in life. I found difficult was on how specific we have to write on the essay. There was many requirements that made it easy but hard at the same time because it was interviewing with a different way that i write. It was easy by telling me all of the questions i need to answer, therefore i wasn’t lost and had much work to put in my essay. I haven’t quite finished it yet but it isn’t that hard i just need to make sure i have everything that is required.

What I learned about the research process is that it is very difficult to search for exact information on a topic that is not very common and that some kisses you will have to draw conclusions about a small part of the article you are reading in order to have a better understanding. Also something I learned for future classes is that I have to choose simpler and more general topics so that I don’t have to research too many articles and only have a few pieces of information to use as this will give me a greater source of information that I can use .

    • That gun violence needs to be put to an end for all because the way that these gun  related deaths are sky rocketing each and every day.
    • The audience that I am trying to reach would be everyone, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, etc. I feel like everybody should hear this message.
    • The genre that I’m planning to write in would be probably slides, like a presentation or an infographic showing the results of gun violent related deaths, and the information that I’ve found while researching on my topic.
    • My plan would be to start out slow & see how far I would get with making my slides. With putting all of my research & stuff together.
    • Something that I would be worried about is finishing this project on time & also making it presentable enough where people like it & they enjoy it.

During my research process, I learned it is not easy to find evidence for specific points you want to prove. You have to break it down into more specific subcategories. I learned that finding many reliable sources is always better than finding one or two because you get many perspectives and different pieces of evidence to use.

Throughout the research process the most difficult part was finding sources that were not repeating the same information. Something else that I found difficult was meeting the word count without repeating what I had already written. Throughout the research process I learned more about health ethics and proper ways to treat people in a healthcare setting, so as a health science major I can take this information with me to future classes and career.
