Think of a genre, or subgenre, that you know a lot about. It can be in film, television, music, literature, etc. Try to be as specific as possible.
What are the elements, features, and characteristics of that genre? Think of a specific artists, film, song, etc., and how it exemplifies those features. Tell me everything you know about that genre!!
Documentary
Interviews, telling a facts and evidence, real people not actors, little to no directing, simple way of shooting, strong story.
Goals of documentary could be to analyse, preserve or rise the awareness.
a genre I know a lot about is paranormal cases that have occurred in real life to families around the world. A main account I watch is āantipodcastā which is a Spanish podcast in Argentina that two male and female doctors give scientist perspectives and paranormal perspectives into old cases that have occurred a few years ago . I enjoy the features they add in every clip with a nice smooth horror background sound as well as scientific evidence per topic that they speak about . They are always finding ways to justify cases in a reasonable way for those who donāt believe in the paranormal and in order to open up both worlds to those who watch them .
Ive watched a lot of action movies and something that I noticed all of them have is big explosions, lots of fight scenes and a Protagonist(s) and an Antagonist(s). Plot wise most action movies have a bunch of events that forces the main character to overcome. Beginning being when the problem for the Protagonist is developed and then the middle which is the climax and then the end when the main character solves the problem.
Romance in either books or movies are pretty similar. You always need a couple present who don’t know they’re going to be together but everyone knows they are. There has to be a good moment then everything goes really bad but they end up happily ever after in the end. In the book ” it ends with us” by colleen hoover, The main characters were old dating pals and become friends again but ended up together In the end of course. There has to be challenges in the relationship always. Either someone is against them or one of the partners has a significant partner already. Usually that person ends up leaving their partner for the main character.
The elements of television that I know is towards the last five minutes of the show they always leave you with shocking news. since they want you to come back the next day to continue watching it since you’re left with the excitement of the news to be discussed. They also tend to add side effects to try to exaggerate the situation even more. Another characteristic is each character has their own personality and the way they say certain lines is different to set the tone. The setting has a big impact on whats going on because it contributes to what the theme of the story is.
A genre that I am very familiar with is action but with some aspects from fantasy and crime. While watching anime, this form of action is very familiar to many popular shows. Within these shows, they would have the main character along with the supporting characters around them and each would have their own personality and perspective of things that happen in their world. Each would have their own aspect on life but would share the common goal of defeating an enemy that is stronger than them to save each other or save the world that they live in. To obtain these powers that they have, each character would have to go through their own development period where they would learn new things around them in order to improve upon those themselves and their powers. Action is also depicted on the battles that each character faces.
The genre I watch the most when it comes to anime is Slice of Life. It’s mostly just characters going about their everyday lives, be it a completely identical life style to modern day or something that would never happen in real life. This genre has shows that are mostly calm and chill, with not much really happening. A plot isn’t even a requirement for this genre, but I enjoy it either way.
so a genre I know a lot about is romance. In romance they tend to be very dramatic, emotional, angry things like that. it always starts off by either two people already being in love or two people about to meet and fall in love, once it happens they go through a serious of different events where they go through all these emotions. For example the notebook, Allie and Noah were so in love but she had to leave for work and when she left from her point of view he never wrote her which then caused her to think that he didn’t care but he always wrote to her so she decided to move on with her life and get another partner but when she came back home he seen her and was heartbroken because in a sense he was waiting for her. Then they ended up having a conversation with a lot of emotion, yelling, arguing, kissing, then they ended up making up and being together. But the characteristics are really just people that are in love and end up with some type of drama but finding their way back at the end.
Fantasy is a genre that intertwines with fiction. Fantasy main key element is magic it’s what sets it apart from different genres like fiction. Magic is what gives fantasy it’s source of life, in majority fantasy movies magic comes into play. Magic isn’t the only source that makes fantasy, another thing that plays in part is Fairy Tales. Fairy Tales often have magical creatures such as dwarves, elves, monsters and more. Myths and legends are also fantasy because most myths and legends are written on a supernatural nature.
A genre that I know a lot of is Shonen, it is a genre that is used for Japanese literature and media.
Usually the genre is targeted towards younger boys, but anyone could enjoy it. It often includes comedy, adventure, and action. There are plot points that are generally found in most, if not, all Shonen media. One of them is the comeback of the main character, this happens after they are defeated, and they have to somehow make a comeback to defeat the villain, or whoever they are up against. Another is being a beginner who is doubted by literally everyone, sometimes even companions or close people.
Usually Shonen is an anime or manga or novel. Sometimes it is all three about one story, just that they are different adaptations.
Most Shonen stories are fantasy and are based in another world.
The genre I know most about is horror. The goal when making a horror movie is to make the audience scared so they put things in the movie that people will fear. A specific movie that exemplifies the features of a horror movie is Conjuring 1 because in this movie it has unexpected jump scares and has creepy and suspenseful music to make the audience scared and wonder what will happen next.
A genre that I am more comfortable with is a memoir. Storytelling is a big part of a memoir, many elements are found as you read. The memoir characteristics are presented by a firsthand retelling of a period in an authorās life. In the memoir of Javier Zamora all the elements and characteristics of a memoir itās shown, as the reader we picture as we read the most hardest obstacle he faced at a young age.
One of my favorite genres is superhero since I have seen many movies of this genre the main characteristics are that there has to be a person who has powers and thanks to that they feel they have to do good or maybe because of crime, they lost to a member of their family, prompting them to lead a life of heroism. Another characteristic that represents this genre of movies a lot is the fantasy and the explosions that give an extra thrill to the experience and a better hook to the people that stimulate the emotion. Heroes usually have an amazing code against criminals, they usually don’t kill or save anyone, no matter who it is.
One genre that always catches my attention is action & horror something about the explosion that is having in movies/shows gives that adrenaline and makes your heart beat faster. Also, horror movies are always a mystery because you will never know who is going to survive out all, how the characters are going to escape.
My favorite genre that Iām into is Comedy considering how well characters or something leads up to the joke or the punchline. Specifically, the two movies I enjoyed the most and well fond of is Ted and Ted 2. Most comedy movies like Ted 2 is where theyāll have a joke thatās usually starts off sad and tragic (ex: when John got knocked into a coma from a falling sign intended to hit Ted, where doctors inform Ted and his friends that he didnāt make it. When they all say their final goodbyes, John awakens and scares all of them especially Ted, pretending that he died). These jokes have you think its a misunderstanding or this canāt be happening, but once the joke comes in the end, you immediately have a mixed emotion of shock and hilarity knowing the movie had tricked you for a quick second thinking the inevitable occurred.
The genre of romance is an all time classic yet very anticipated. when watching a romance film we have a hetero couple and story line of boy meet girls and is in a constant pursuit to get the girl.In any romance movie we will always have an element of love at first sight young and mature love, unrequited love, obsession, sentimental love, spiritual love, forbidden love, platonic love, sexual and passionate love, sacrificial love, explosive and destructive love, and tragic love. One of my favorite books five meet apart captures this idea of forbidden love we have two pain characters both teenagers dying from a disease.
