What’s New in the Library Fall 2019 for Faculty

Get support with teaching, research, and curricular development at the City Tech Library!

Open Educational Resources

Want to learn more about open educational resources (OER) and cost-free course materials, and how they can support your curriculum? Are you unsatisfied with the subject coverage, cultural relevance, or currency of the course materials you’re assigning? The library can introduce you to resources and opportunities to develop open educational resources for your course! If you have questions, get in touch with Cailean Cooney.

Reserves

We encourage you to consider placing required reading materials from the City Tech Library collection on reserve. Placing titles on reserve allows for greater access to these limited materials and requests must be made well in advance of the start of term. You can also loan or donate your copy of the textbook or other required readings. All reserve books are available at the circulation desk and can be used for two hours in the library.

Reach out to the subject specialist in your area to request new purchases or to learn about recent additions to our collection. Due to budgetary constraints, the library cannot honor all purchase requests.  You may also contact the Collections Management Librarian, Wanett Clyde, for general purchasing inquiries.

Interlibrary Loan

Have you found a great source for your research but it’s not available through CUNY? Use our Interlibrary Loan service to get access to materials beyond our collection including rare and hard to find materials. Faculty are able to request both books and articles.

Also encourage your students to use Interlibrary Loan for their research! Please note that students can currently only request articles at this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

The Library is in Your Course!

No matter what platform you’re using, library resources are now available wherever your students already are.

Using Blackboard?

Use the City Tech Library on your course menu link to access a subject specific research guide with database recommendations, search tips, citation help, and more.

Using OpenLab?

The Library Tools widget is available in new OpenLab courses by default. This widget allows students to search for library sources from within your course and has a direct link to our main website and 24X7 “Ask a Librarian” chat service.
Don’t see the widgets you want in OpenLab or interested in adding subject specific resources to your course site? Write to Prof. Nora Almeida for learn more about custom integration options.
