Hello and welcome to the City Tech Library’s Spring 2016 newsletter. As I write this we are in midterms at the college and the library is full of folks taking advantage of the resources and services we offer for all of our 17,000 City Tech students as well as faculty and staff. The library collects books and articles, both print and digital, for students’ coursework and research. Our expert library faculty teach students, both in the classroom and at the Reference Desk, how to access and use information, and consult with faculty and staff on research, information, and scholarly communications issues. The library makes technologies available for academic work, including calculators, computers, printers, scanners, and photocopiers. And of course we offer physical spaces, including carrel desks for quiet, individual study, tables for spreading out, and study rooms for group work.
Dedicated library faculty and staff work hard to meet the academic needs of our City Tech community, and as those needs grow and change, this year we’re focusing anew on learning more about how our community uses our resources, services, and spaces. Which books and articles in our collection are borrowed or downloaded most frequently? How many pages do City Tech students print out each semester? Do students follow up with library faculty at the Reference Desk after they’ve had an instruction session with us? Does our signage clearly point library users in the right direction for what they need? Which areas of the library get most crowded during our busy times, and is there enough seating in those areas?
We’ll be spending much of the this year digging into the data we gather to help us answer these questions. And we’d like to hear your feedback, too. Please share your thoughts using the comments form on our website, or visit the library and fill out a feedback form at the entrance table or on one of the iPad kiosks throughout the library. We look forward to hearing from you!
