As a CityTech student, you have instant access to the Ursula C. Schwerin Library – a great place to study and enjoy a bit of quiet in the middle of Downtown Brooklyn.
If you enjoy the CityTech Library, we also encourage you to explore a local public library! There are 58 (!) branches of the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), dotted across the borough. Click here for an interactive map of all locations.
If you’re a resident of New York State, you’re immediately eligible for a Brooklyn Public Library Card: apply online here.
BPL hosts a wide variety of events throughout the summer – for all ages! Some of the events for kids include – Babies & Books, Toddler Time, Story Play, Russian Storytime, and Discovery Table.
There are oodles of free events for adults as well – from workshops about technology, like Email Basics, Twitter, and Adobe Photoshop, to Free One-on-One Financial Counseling, Business Mentors, and more. The events are truly intended for a full spectrum of ages, including Positive Aging, Older Adults Wellness, Tai Chi, and Creative Writing.
The Brooklyn Public Library also hosts classes and workshops for Adult Learning, which cover English as a Second Language, adult literacy, and more. Summer – a great time to brush up on your skills, and for free!
Finally, the Music Lending Library is a new addition, offering the chance to borrow guitars, ukuleles, violins, and keyboards. The loan period is two months, so you’ll have plenty of time to rock out with a new instrument.
