Gale Virtual Reference Library got a facelift!

The new year is young but it’s already brought a lot of changes to the City Tech Library! We’re very excited about one such change in particular:

Screenshot of new GVRL platform
Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL)

The very popular Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) has been upgraded to a sleeker and shinier interface. The functionality remains the same — with improvements, actually, to the overall searching experience. We hope you’ll find that the new interface will encourage you to stay longer, search deeper, and find what you need faster.
The new look is engaging and inviting… so take some time out to search in GVRL today!
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact Prof. Allie Verbovetskaya at averbovetskaya@citytech.cuny.edu.

Some of your favorite databases have moved!

If you use any of the Wilson databases (e.g., Education Full Text, General Science Full Text, etc.), you’ll be surprised to find that they now look different:
Visual representation of migration from old interface (Wilson) to new interface (EBSCO)
That’s because these databases are now owned by EBSCO. All of the content is the same but the interface has changed.
So how does this affect you? Well, if we did our part right, this should not affect your research in any way! You will only need to update your bookmarks and transfer your “My WilsonWeb” information to a new “My EBSCOhost” account by February 1, 2012. (For more information about “My EBSCOhost,” please visit support.ebscohost.com.) Otherwise, all of the functionality will remain the same and it will be business as usual.
If you run into any issues, please do not hesitate to contact Prof. Allie Verbovetskaya at averbovetskaya@citytech.cuny.edu.

Naxos Music Library is live!

As of January 2012, we have full access to Naxos Music Library. Our license only accommodates a maximum of 3 simultaneous users so please remember to log out when you’re finished using it!
Naxos Music LibraryNaxos Music Library provides streaming (non-downloadable) access to classical, jazz, world, folk, and Chinese music. The advanced search engine enables searching by genre, composer, lyricist, artists/performing groups, instruments, periods, countries, years of composition, and moods. Instructors may create playlists to supplement music courses with listening material.
It is accessible from the library’s list of databases but this is the direct link:
http://citytech.ezproxy.cuny.edu:2048/login?url=http://citytech.naxosmusiclibrary.com/
(As usual, you will need to log in with your City Tech barcode if you’re not on campus. If you’re not familiar with accessing databases from off campus, please see the Off-Campus Access instructions.)
Remember to log out at the end of your session to ensure that others will have access to the resource.
Faculty members who wish to create playlists for instructional use, please contact Prof. Allie Verbovetskaya at averbovetskaya@citytech.cuny.edu.
