Our summer hours begin this week and extend through the end of the Summer semester on August 12.
During the summer City Tech Library will be open Monday – Thursday from 9:00am – 8:00pm.
Additionally, we are OPEN from 9:00am – 5:00pm on the following Fridays: 6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/9
And we are CLOSED on these Fridays: 7/2, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6, 8/13

Students: Learn to research more efficiently and effectively!

The Library Department is pleased to announce that our new course: LIB 1201 – Research & Documentation for the Information Age — will be offered during the Fall 2010 semester. This 3-credit course will run on Tuesday/Thursday 10:00am – 11:15am, and may be taken to satisfy Core requirements in Communications (COMM) or as an Elective (ELECT). The prerequisite is ENG 1101.

Course Description:
In this course students will explore issues in research and documentation for text (in print and online), images, sound, and multimedia. We will investigate where information comes from and how it is organized in both traditional and emerging media. Students will examine the ethics of information use and determine how to critically evaluate sources. Throughout the course, students will create and present research and documentation projects using traditional and emerging media and technologies.

Faculty Workshop: Advanced (and Intro!) RefWorks

The City Tech Library, in partnership with the Faculty Commons, is pleased to invite all faculty to a library workshop. In this workshop we’ll learn more about the specialized features of RefWorks: creating custom citation styles, inserting references directly into MS Word documents, and advanced searching. Participants should be familiar with RefWorks or have attended an introductory RefWorks workshop.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in working with RefWorks and were unable to attend the Introductory RefWorks workshop earlier in the semester, you are welcome to attend this workshop! The workshop can address basic features of RefWorks also.

Faculty Workshop: Learn to Blog and Use Twitter

The City Tech Library, in partnership with the Faculty Commons, is pleased to invite all faculty to a library workshop. Blogs continue to change how scholarly ideas are expressed and exchanged. Workshop participants will learn how to set up and maintain a blog using WordPress, how to use the Twitter microblogging service, and how to find scholarly information in the “blogosphere.”

Faculty Workshop: Preventing Plagiarism

Facilitated by the Ursula C. Schwerin Library and Writing Across the Curriculum
In this cut-and-paste world where words and images are so accessible, often students do not fully understand the implications of plagiarism. In this workshop, we’ll discuss academic honesty and strategies for helping our students avoid plagiarism in their work. Topics covered will include how assignment design can discourage plagiarism, how to teach students to correctly use citation and paraphrasing, and how to respond when plagiarism is discovered.
Workshops are open to all City Tech faculty members.
