Intern Report #1

My week at the library took an unexpected turn, because of the corona virus of course!

(Quick recap) All CUNY schools will have a five-day instructional recess March 12-18. There will be no physical classes on campus during this time. Starting on Thursday, March 19, most instruction will resume in distance-learning mode, and will remain so through the end of the spring semester. Colleges will remain open during the spring semester. This will include dormitories, libraries, research facilities, daycare centers, and laboratories that support CUNY students. For updates from CUNY, visit https://www.cuny.edu/coronavirus/ or https://twitter.com/CUNY.

The library staff are working hard to keep the library open for the City Tech community. They are making plans, also, for the expansion of online resources and services during the upcoming weeks. As an intern, I hope to be able to support their efforts in whatever way I can. Also, if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns about library services during this transition time, please feel free to email me at RJones@citytech.cuny.edu, and I will share with the library staff.

I’d like to recognize everyone at the library — the circulation staff, technical staff, student workers, faculty, admin, IT staff, and cleaning crew — for providing seamless service to the City Tech community during an unsettling week!

P.S. Beginning this weekend, all CUNY libraries will suspend overdue fines, for both regular loans and recalls. No need to come in to the library to return books (for now)!
