o    City Tech’s PDC documents take you through the 5 steps here

·         Have icebreaker questions to ask (see below)

·         Did you have a mentor? How did you find your mentor?

·         Did you have an internship? What 3 things did you get out of your internship experience?

·         How did you land your first job? Was it through networking?

·         What did you think you were going to do in your career after high school? Did your plan change?

·         What is it that excites you most about your job or industry?

·         Is there anything that surprised you about the industry you are in?

Adobe Creative Cafe Held on April 24th 10 AM to 5 PM at Glass House Union Square 31 E. 17th Street

Dear COMD Graphic Design students, on 4/24 during Spring Break you have a wonderful opportunity to share your Portfolio with professionals in the field.

It is a casual setting where you can pop-in/out at any point between the event time to get their work reviewed. You just need to RSVP using the link below:

https://event.adobe.com/creativecafe-newyork

Adobe is particularly interesting in seeing the portfolios of COMD students focused on graphic design but if advertising and web design mixed into your portfolio is fine also.

Please take advantage of this opportunity. If you are a junior or a senior, it will be most helpful to you for honing your portfolio for internships or first jobs upon graduation. If you have taken COMD 2400 and have your sophomore portfolio review ready, it is a great opportunity to get feedback on your work as you head into you upper level classes.

Networking Event on 4/15 from 5 PM to 7 PM: Opening Reception of the Exhibit “Drawings from Joe’s Pub” at the Public Theatre

The Public Theater presents Drawings From Joe’s Pub by Joan Chiverton

Public Opening Reception April 15th, the balcony gallery of the Public Theater 5-7 pm, 425 Lafayette St, New York, NY

Joan Chiverton is a New York City-based illustrator, painter, and educator, whose work has been widely exhibited and has appeared in the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. She is also the sister of Richard Pels, one of COMD’s adjunct professors. If you can’t make the opening, the exhibit is available for viewing through July 2024.

Ms. Chiverton is renowned for her live sketches of performing artists on stage. She has regularly collaborated with Joe’s Pub, since 2017, and has uniquely captured the electric, creative energy of the work on stage, off-stage, and behind-the-scenes.

This exhibition is a celebration of Joe’s Pub’s 25th anniversary season and the many, multidisciplinary collaborations that make the magic possible in our “jewel box of a room” every evening.
