Marshall McLuhan in the second reading basically starts off by explaining how this technology advancement is changing everything around us. The way we go about things and even taking things away from us. In the passage McLuhan states that âWhen this circuit learns your job, what are you going to do, jobs represent a relatively recent pattern of work.â Basically what I think he is saying with this is that once they find the technology and are able to get a machine or anything that can do your job more proficient than most likely you won’t be needed anymore and you’re going to be replaced, and then what? Which shows how technological advancement might bring problems that might bring to individuals. And thatâs only their jobs, that’s not including the other problems that this might bring. All this Advancement in the environment causes changes, which causes people to change as well.
Language or communication plays a very important role in art and design because language is a way to get a point across. And as I discuss assignment 2, language it’s not just what we speak, it’s also symbols, photographs, or even painting. Designs can have all of those elements which is considered a form of language which help the viewer get a more clear view of what youâre trying to convey. With art it’s just about the feelings that you pour into the painting. Someone with a trained eye will be able to tell what youâre trying to say with a quick look and all that can be a form of language or a form to communicate.
LĂĄszlĂł Moholy-Nagy stated the text title Typophoto âWhat is typophoto? Typography is communication composed in type. Photography is the visual presentation of what can be optically apprehended. Typophoto is the visually most exact rendering of communication.â I feel like this quote shows even more just how much language or communication plays a role in art in design. Each concept its a form of communication no matter how you look at it, so they both play a major role in the making of art or design
In my opinion Art is something that’s strictly based on your creativity and how you feel at the moment that you are making the work of art. School is something that I don’t think is necessary for art. School can teach about past concepts, other artist styles and all that. But in my opinion art is all about feeling and creativity and I don’t feel that school teaches you that.
Language is a way for us to communicate with one another whether it be with signs, symbols, or verbally itâs all considered a language because youâre either trying to communicate or trying to get a message across. Language itâs very different depending where you are at, Words could have a different interpretation than what you expected. Even symbols could have a different meaning. Language is heavily associated with design.
I say that itâs heavily associated with design because with designs us designers are trying to get a message across or trying to get you to do or buy something. And we do this by using symbols, illustrations or pictures. These are all ways of communicating which are a form of language. Which is why Language helps shape design because essentially design is a form of communication and a way to get a message across so itâs basically a different type of language.
Language helps shape design but theyâre things that designs can do that language can’t. And the most important of those things is making the understanding of what you are trying to say a lot easier. Sometimes verbally it’s hard to get a point across or for someone to understand what you are trying to say but design makes all that a lot easier, with the way we incorporate things to get our message across whether it be with the symbols, images, or whatever else it’s just a lot simpler to understand.
I Think that everybody has a different view of how to design. It all depends on the person and their creativity, and the way they chooses to attack the problem. According to Josef MĂźller-Brockmann he believes that the way to design is to use a grid. Muller-Brockmann believes that with a grid you can have your design organize and place in a way that’s easy to understand.
In a way Karl Gerstner is a bit similar to Josef Muller-Brockmann in that they both believe that the way to design is to follow a system. Gerstners created a diagram which basically shows a way to design. It shows a whole bunch of solutions to designs problem that you might be having. And he thinks that this Diagram should be follow step by step in order to design. In my opinion designing should have a system to follow but it should also allow the designers to be as creative as they would like as long as they follow the rules.
Last but not least is Jan Tschichold He says that Design typography should be visible easy to understand. Tschichold stated that “The typographer must take the greatest care to study how his work is read and ought to be read” Meaning that the designer should take time to visualize how he wants his work to be received by others, by the way the design is set up.
These manifestos were really interesting looking into the point of views of these individuals. But at the same time, they were quite difficult for me to understand exactly what they were trying to say. Marinetti’s says “what is the point of looking behind at the moment when we must open the mysterious shutters of the impossible.” and what I get from this is that we shouldn’t be focusing on the past when we still have a future ahead of us full of endless possibilities. Saying that we should focused on the future not the past. He believed that the information being fed to the public in museums and libraries weren’t entirely correct which is why I think he made the state of wanting to get rid of the museums and libraries.
In the other hand Aleksandr Rodchenko focused more on people wishes. He wanted to make to make things useful for the ideal soviet citizen. Rodchenko vision was to move society forward with the technology they have now, to make it a better place. at least from what I was able to comprehend.
