Learning Log #9

For the first shot I had found a sort of spot pyramid shaped light doorway and thought it would be cool if the subject stood in the middle. The professor used the light stick to create the fire-effect in the background. The second shot was taken near a movie ad that was well lit. We had a blue light behind him to highlight.

Learning Log 1:

Side by side comparison of the original photo and the edit. With the original photo we had gone into the theatre and found some interesting light near a staircase. The lighting had a sort of ominous dark feature to it. The light was directly above him which gave it a spotlighted effect. In the edited one, I was playing around a bit and found that it looked a lot better in black and white. After my editing this was the result and I was very satisfied with it. I had to sharpen the photo a bit and bring up the blacks and whites. Overall it was a good shoot.

Homework #1 Javion Bailey

Titled Xabi Alonso – adidas parley, this photograph really stood out to me from Adam Pretty’s collection. I was drawn to this photo because of its intensity. The subject, Xabi Alonso, is centered in the photograph surrounded by the water. Because of this composition, our eyes are drawn to him. His red shirt also acts a contrast to the blue water. In addition, Xabi has a compelling look on his face. Even while the water is surrounding him, he keeps a calm and collected demeanor. On the right, there is a small smirk which could be interpreted as confidence or arrogance. This photograph reminds of the Greek god Poseidon. Just as Poseidon controls the waves, the subject here shows complete confidence in his mastery of the water behind him.
