Problem 3 – The Wiggly Wall

Description

The problem that our group came up with was to use a jack method that would be sturdy to support the walls to prevent them from shaking when the door slammed and to come up with a solution for molding on a curve wall. At first our problem was just the jack for the door slamming until later we remembered that we had to put molding on a curved flat. The main issue was to make sure that the flat doesn’t shake when the door is being slammed which was the first thing we focused on and after we had finished dealing with that our main focus was turned to the steam box. The solution to keeping the flats up was a door flat that had a smaller jack on top of it. The molding for the curved flats we made a steam box to bend the molding pieces. What was hard for me was taking leadership in this project. I wasn’t expecting it and it was hard at first trying to figure what I should be doing and how to handle curtain things, but as we continued to work on this, I started to understand what to do and how to direct my team. The easy part was waiting for the pieces to steam.

Analysis

In the real world I expect to be put in situations where I have to take leadership. In this problem we didn’t have a budget but in the real world we would. Also when setting up the flats we wouldn’t have so many people setting up 3 flats.

Application

I really learned how to be a team leader and how to communicate what needed to be done and how to do it in a way that people were okay with and not grunting with annoyance. I would definitely take the communication side out of it and try not to hog any position but try to understand what each person wants. Every job can relate to this.
