I visited the Cooper Hewitt Museum for a project and there were three items that I fell in love with.
The first item was the staircase model (France), mid – late 19th century. It remined me of an old fashion movie. I would want something like that in my house, but only to walk down from because walking up would be very difficult. I got pain in the back of my thigh just thinking about walking up the stairs. It was built for a store in the 19th century. I guessed the people in the 19th century did not mind it. I do not even want to imagine going up and down with heavy objects. Pure nightmare.
The second item that caught my attention was the scenic wallpaper, “Landscape No.1”, 2017. I spend about a half an hour in this room. The screens changed from CMYK to red, to green, and to blue. I loved each and every story that it changed too. Blue was my favorite because it displayed people at a dance. The people looked like they were having a great time. I wish I was there partying with them.
The third item was a poster, “Identidad/Exceso” (Identity/Excess), 1992. I was amazed that the artist used the torso to identify America. The torso was a strong part of the body, but also sensitive. It holds many important organs, like the heart. If you punch a torso, in a certain spot, it can make them fall weak or it might bounce from the punch.
When I left the museum, I felt invigorated and inspired to do more with my artwork. This was a joyous time in my life that I do not think I will forget. This was less of an assignment and more of a pleasure.
