For the horror genre specifically short scary stories on reddit it helps also include your own experience to the story, It would give you more to write about and its possible others might have felt the same. Now this would all be up to you but I found it easier to write about things that actually had scary events occur in the story this way there is more to analyze meaning more to write about. The tone can be a big help as in most of the stories it is key to bringing the fear to the reader. It’s also better to choose a story that you like this way it’s a little more enjoyable to read over and over, and will overall make it easier. Each source shares same place of origin, Reddit. More specifically the subreddit r/nosleep. This is a place on a website where the common man and struggling writers to anyone in between share scary stories. The stories are regulated so the ones that stay up should be of quality. Most of them close with a twist that adds a shock factor like the story “Has anyone heard of a company called amped rides” the story itself may have been slightly scary and kinda left it on the border when they leave but the addition of the right handed comment really sent it over the edge allowing a true feeling of fear. Most of the stories start off after the main event of fear happened, with these opening comes the twist closing so these kinda of go hand in hand but are not always linked its just rather common when one or the other is present. These stories usually go for emotional fear as it is easier to target like losing a child, seeing dead family members and your wife trying to kill you. These things are just easier to turn into horror stories rather then a scary story of giving a presentation or heights. These stories usually don’t try to persuade anything so no one thought maybe they are aimed at people who like scary stories but still no persuasion. I learned how to analyze short scary stories on reddit. I would like to learn how to do this better.

I learned that it is still hard to write though it is less harder when the topic is something I am interested about. I also found it interesting that I procrastinate on writing assignments more than any Ā another assignments. I think one of my greatest strengths are imagining I’m a great writer. Now this can be very beneficial as it raises the bar and that means I would have to raise my writing skills to meet that bar and that sounds like a great motivator. The part I would most like to grow on is to take less time to write a decent essay. Like I have previously explained I do not like writing mostly because of the time it takes to write them. Sometimes it takes an hour or two to right just a couple of sentences. I would probably need to write more and learn how to actually write instead of procrastinate.

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Reflection for Annotated Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Bibliography Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā After writing my annotated bibliography I learned a lot about the genre of civil right motivation speaker. There are many similarities between my annotated bibliographies and differences. The author for all my bibliography had very similar tone like hopeful, persuasive and serious. The authors try to persuade the audience to his point of view for the argument or belief. This make the audience want to stand up and make a change or differences. These authors achieved this by using emotion to appeals to the audience. For examples Mather Luther king said ā€œIt is a world in which children will no longer be judged by their skin color and where black and white alike will join handsā€,this shows how Mather luther king uses the people emotion against them by talking about their family. These authors also repeat words to strengthen his power of persuasion. Like in Ā LBJā€™s speech he uses the word ā€œWe Shall Overcomeā€ā€œthere is no,ā€ ā€œwe must not,ā€ ā€œlet each of us,ā€ and ā€œI want to be,ā€ to add to his claim that all Americans deserve equal rights. He also uses words like ā€œweā€ or ā€œus,ā€ so his audience is led to believe that they are agreeing with Johnsonā€™s opinion.Martin Luther King also did the same thing however used important words that were the themes of the speech, had Significant value and make the speech more memorable.

Ā These authors also use other speech or event form the pass to help reinforce there idea.Like in Lincoln, Abraham. ā€œThe Gettysburg Addressā€ he said “Four score and seven years ago,” Lincoln honored the sacrifices American made for their Freedom from the British.ā€œFour score and sevenā€ is much more poetic andĀ  much more noble than ā€œEighty-sevenā€. This is fitting, because 87 years earlier, the United States had won its freedom from Britain and gave America independence. An in Mather Luther king ā€œI Have A Dreamā€ ā€œFive score years agoā€ Which reference to Abraham Lincoln speech about the right for slavery. Also in Ā LBJā€™s speech ā€œWe Shall Overcomeā€ā€œAll men are created equalā€ to explain the term ā€œall menā€ includes black men. He states ā€œThe issue of equal rights for American Negroes is such an issue,ā€ making his audience question the idea that a black and a white man are different. One thing I learn from my bibliography is that they are many ways to persuade to one and make it more significant and memorable. One thing that I still want to learn is how they were inspired to make changes and did they know how it was going to effect world.

I’m not going to lie writing this annotated bibliography was literally a pain to do. I hate having to simplify things that can just be read and interpreted in that exact moment. It isn’t math, what exactly is there to be proven ? Against all odds, I finished my assignment and closed my laptop never to look back again until now. Being that I was away on a vacation with my family, delayed me to even turn the assignment on time. As time went by my procrastination skills kicked in and forced me to never even turn my finished work in. Nonetheless even open my laptop due to the fact that this is the only class that doesn’t require me to turn everything in with a paper and pen. Which is ironic because it is an English class. As I self reflected on this matter and actually realized my situation I’m literally setting myself up for failure due to my laziness and procrastination skills joining forces over something so simple. To stop this from ever happening again, I plan to better manage my time in terms of finding a way to balance things out where I can complete my work and actually turning it in and then have fun with my life. I plan to work on ways in which I could stop being lazy as well as stop procrastinating so that I could better myself not only in terms getting my work in on time but also so that I may go to extreme lengths to find and reach my greatest potential.

Even though is isn’t posted my an-noted bibliography is short stories and fairy tales based on the theme of the season Autumn. In each of my short stories the author or narrator rather would talk about how as each season passes by people and their behaviour as well as their personality begins to change. In the season Fall, it showed people to be more lazy and cozy in spending time with themselves. It showed people being depressed and more tired due to it getting colder so you no longer want to stay outside with your friends to laugh and have a good time. The weather in terms of rain forcing people to stay inside and wrap themselves in a big blanket. Whereas, the season reminded people of love and adventure in the jumping in puddles and feeling the rain on your face after sharing a kiss as if the rain just let the steam the grew between your lips of the other person be put out by a soothing embrace. The season in a way forces people to be bipolar. Sometimes they feel like doing things and other times they don’t even want to be bothered. And to prove this is just how my annotated biblography never found its way to be submitted on time do to the fact that my once hyper energy faded away and restored in me turning into the lazy cat that I am.

There are numerous similarities that all the sources in the genre share, such as the use of tone, language and emotional appeal to the audience. The authors of the various sources utilized many tones and languages to appeal to the emotions of the audience. The intentions of the authors for using these methods were to persuade the audience to see their point of view for the argument or belief they were trying to uphold. The audience for the sources also varied; some authors were writing to appeal to an audience that liked adventurous tales, while others preferred reading about a romantic or tragic story. In order to appeal to the preferences of these audiences, the authors used tones and language that would correspond to the nature of the different stories they were writing about. There was a lot to learn from this topic. Poetry can be applied to a lot of methods of writing. The authors showed through their pieces that not a single word is wasted when it comes to writing poetic literature. These authors try to find the most effective words to deliver their emotions or thoughts to the audience they are trying to appeal to. In addition to that, poems stir the audience’s imagination through their use of words and creates powerful visuals for them, in order for them to truly understand the subject they are being immersed in. The values of words and emotions used in poems by the authors teach the audience how inspiring poetry can be and how well-crafted lines of poetry can lead to an outlet of the audienceā€™s own ideas.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā As a writer, Iā€™m good at deciphering the authorā€™s underlying messages of each of his lines and expanding it in order to understand the intentions of what the author is trying to say. In poems, the authors say a lot of things that arenā€™t as direct or straight-forward as normal literature. In that sense, it can be difficult for the audience to understand the real meanings behind each of the lines of the poems. However, I am good at pinpointing the claim the author is trying to make in his piece, and the evidence he provides throughout his poem by understanding the tone and language of the poetic literature. To continue to grow as a writer, I would like to work on my grammar and structure my writing in a better and more efficient way. In order to enact these changes, it would be wise for me to take small steps first, and continue to write consistently in order to grow and improve as a writer.

Annotated Bibliography Reflection

After writing my annotated bibliography I learned a lot about the genre of hip hop music and the commonalities among the songs that are apart of that genre. Some of these commonalities include the overall tone of the song/ lyrics, the particular audience the artists were targeting, as well as the overall message and outcome the artist was trying to convey in each song. Most of the songs in the genre of hip hop music tend to have a very direct, colloquial, and cautionary tone. Most of the music in this genre are relaying a message and often times refer to telling the story of living a harsh and dangerous life and that living a life like that is real and should be avoided, which results in the directness of all the horrors that are faced and experienced. They do this while also providing a warning to those that have not experienced the same to know how the other side lives and to avoid it to better yourselves. Artists in this genre are able to relay this message through their colloquial tone which allows people to easily understand what they are trying to say while also not feeling like anyone is above or below the other, it provides the feeling of a conversation to either learn and understand something that you are not used to, or feel a sense of familiarity so that it is easier to relate to if you can. This also goes towards reaching out to their audience of people who have experienced something similar to people who are unaware and in the dark of this harsh reality. Artists in this genre tend to focus on the emotion to allow people to relate and have a better understanding of where they came from the struggles they went through. Hip Hop music is used by many artists to have an outlet to discuss and bring light to the various problems that are faced in impoverished communities, and through this tactics they are able to achieve the goal of being a representative for uncommon problems for some but very common problems for others. By doing this they are able to start a conversation about the harsh reality so many people are so blind of and to help improve the lives of those that are struggling and are forced to resort to other means of getting by. The genre of hip hop music taught me a lot, however I would still like to more about the actual process of making a hip hop song that is able to reach so many people as compared to the ones that do not garner as large of a traction.Ā

As a result of this assignment I was able to learn a lot about myself as a writer. I was able to learn how easily I was able to analyze different songs to the point of having my own interpretation and claim of each song while also being able to support it using evidence from the song. I found that I was able to use simple seemingly straightforward lyrics and break them down and analyze them to be something more. This was shown when I used ā€œWhere Ya Atā€ by Future and Drake. They constantly used the line ā€œwhere ya a** was at?ā€ and from that line alone I was able to gather the emphasis that came from this line and itā€™s repetition to convey the message of being used and wondering where certain people were before they made in the industry and became successful which reveals how people are not always loyal and may be with you for an alternative motive. Although I found this to be a strength of mine I would like to grow as a writer in the sense of brainstorming and being more imaginative in the early stages. This is something that I often struggle with and in order to improve I would need to not be too focused on the overall assignment and allow myself to let go and be more open to free thinking so that there are less limitations on myself and what I can write about to convey a certain message or share a particular belief.Ā Ā

  1. My chosen genre was indie films. I selected six articles that describes the experience of distribution and marketing in the indie film industry. The authors attitude in the articles is considered astonishment and concerned. This harmless attitude further illustrates the problem with businesses in the film industry. Its important to the authors that they set an example of a working filmmaker. As much as producing is hard, itā€™s also incredibly rewarding. The society has refuted the fact that there is a wealth of amazing talent out there. From what the authors explains in the articles – Todayā€™s new media giants are embracing the independent film but as a marketing concept only; every day they bring more and more of the production, distribution and exhibition apparatus under their control. Throughout the articles, distributors are pictured like saints, harmless to none but film makers. Whatever your budget is as a film maker, double it.
  2. I learned that any short film that is promoted as being done ā€œon a budget of $0ā€ is lying and being a producer is hard. It can take years for an indie film to be completed. Everything costs money and finding those finances can be tricky and time-consuming. For any product that we use in this life, it has to go through a number of processes namely extraction, where raw materials are harvested from mother nature, then production, where the raw materials are converted into a form that will satisfy a particular human need, to distribution, where the finished product is taken to where it is needed, consumption, where the person with the need utilizes the product to satisfy his need and finally to disposal, where the remains of the consumed product is done away with. No amount of money can buy you a good finished product. It always takes sweat equity. I can either a be a producer or a consumer, though I could be both in the sense that I could be producing and consuming the same product or producing one product and using it while buying other products that I am not producing so as to cater for my varying needs. A feature film should never be made unless you love your concept so much, that you are willing to live with it for the next few years.
  3. Is there a new trend in film you can add to the filming or story?
Will shooting the whole film on a smartphone help draw an audience or financial backer?
  4. I feel that I need to constantly reflect and remind myselfĀ about concerning opinions and information. I like to think of myself as an analytic when it comes to dissecting a text or essay. Iā€™m really good at identifying main points, details, and concrete evidence in readings. I am confident in these areas of my progress, but im not very good at constructive criticism and giving opinion-based analysis. For example, whenever I need to tell how the author does something I usually just give a summary of what he talks about.

Annotated Bibliography Reflection – Will Miller

Ā In Renaissance poetry, the authors use early modern english throughout their poems that is in accordance to their time period so some words we still use but some are obsolete. Also the authors useĀ  figurative language in order to express to the audience their personal beliefs about love and relationships but do so in a subtle way. Furthermore the authors also use setting/context so that the reader can have a better understanding of where the text is taking place. Last the author’s rhyme their words in order to create the type of poetry. What I learned about renaissance poetry while analyzing it was that, one all most all the writers were men, second a lot of the poems talked about women and describing them and comparing them using simile, third the authors used a lot of figurative language in their poems. I still want to learn about the female poets at this time period and what they wrote their poems about. I wanna learnĀ  why most of the poetry written by men during that time was directed towards women and why it was sometimes in a sexual manner. I also want to learn more about the background of the poets I used as examples to get a better sense of their identity and to figure out why they write about the things they write about. As a writer some things I learned about myself was that I am good at finding and identifying different types of figurative language in my text that I am reading. I found out that I actually enjoy reading poetry and trying to understand what the author is trying to get across to his/her audience. I learned that I struggle as a writer to begin my statements and struggle to get started. I also struggled with staying on topic and not repeating my words/ ideas. Some ways I wish to continue to grow as a writer is to not give up when I’m not sure what to say or start with, and to also work on my grammar so that whoever reads my work can better understand what I am saying. In order to improve on these things I need to practice handwriting and not having the computer fix my mistake for me so I can learn to fix it myself. I can also practice using sentence starters and practice making claims for my arguments. Lastly I want to be able to not give up so in order to help fix this I can take 5 min breaks if needed in order to take a second to look at what I wrote and read it over to myself.

  1. Reggae music has changed the world in its own way and this is primarily dependent on the following four commonalities that the samples I selected share. The all delve into major topics of how to live your life. It provides a how to whether it be a good person, live authentically in your love or if to use marijuana. They also rely heavily on the ā€œIā€ perspective as in they sing and write from a place closest to the creative. This is what gives great reggae music that enduring quality. It resonates with its audience throughout decades because of this authenticity. The third is that of impact. Reggae music has a feel good quality to it, which is intended to leave its listener in a better space after its consumption. The fourth and interestingly most important one is that of its audience. Reggae music crosses barrier but majority of it speaks directly t the Caribbean mind as they are usually rooted in religion and unity. These two themes are foundational pillars in our community and can be seen in the way that artistes portray themselves. I learnt how across the Caribbean the value system rarely changes firmly rooted in Christianity and a love for oneā€™s neighbor. This is what makes reggae music so special because we know the songs as they reflect our lives. I want to learn more about the split of the wailers and how Bob Marley may have felt after the split upon the rise of Peter Tosh in his own right.
  2. I believe that I am strong at analyzing material and creating content. I can logically see pros and cons of a subject without becoming emotionally invested but understand the desired effect of the writer. Sometimes I think that this might also be a problem because the material doesnā€™t affect me as it once did. I think its because life has made me jaded and in so doing immune to events that are intended to stir something within the reader. This in turn leads to what I believe is my major flaw as a writer. Without emotional attachment to the writing, I lack incentive and creativity about both method and initial idea because I tend to lack emotional connection to most if any written material. I think to fully achieve my true potential as a writer is to break down those mental barriers I have, I need to tap into issues that I know relate to me and make it extremely personal and not seek external validation. Iā€™ve always written to this day for others and by this I mean my target audience has always been my sole motivation behind writing. I need to every week commit to writing for myself. This will provide me with an opportunity to reflect on myself as a person and tap into what are my deeper issues with writing.
