Journal Entry 9

The Name of our project is “King of Israel”. My roll for this project is character development and animation.  We meet as a group every Thursday after class to organize our project.  My team consist of Wale, Yoonshik, Rosa, Rich.

  • analyze character properties
  • research ready made characters and scenes for our games
  • rig characters
  • rig elements in scene
  • map logic editor properties
  • write python coding for game elements

I’ll be working closely with Rich, and Rosa to achieve these goals.

Journal Entry 9: Final Project Proposal

I’m going to partake in the development of a game with Gabby, Justin, and Stephanie. It will serve a few purposes. We intend for it to be the first in a series (at the very least hypothetically), and as such it’s going to be laying out the foundations for future games.

The game will be short, and is intended to establish your character in future games. Your actions and decisions will determine your character’s appearance and traits, as based on a variety of animals. For the prototype we are going to finish, we’re going to be using a bird (forgot which kind specifically) and a frill neck lizard. The character designs will be human chibis incorporating a recognizable component of each animal. It’ll similar to Nekko, where you find cat paws, ears, and tail on a human, except our bird chibi will just have wings and our lizard chibi will just have the frill neck of the lizard as pseudo hair.

We are going to establish the player’s character at the end of the game based on the way they fulfill quests, converse, and react. Similar to Mass Effect (but hopefully with better animation.)

My role will be primarily coding the game, but I hope and intend to involve myself in the level design, modeling, animating, and texturing process.

Possible project.

Put quite simply? an over used idea….RPG . And not just any RPG, but a classic final fantasy styled experience.

Seriously. But instead of remaining serious continuously the character can be absurd with absurd weapons! Who doesn’t want a main character whose weapon of choice is a stuffed animal? If I can get a team together I’d run the modeling to the best of my ability.

But right now for the proposal I suggest a set demo like experience complete with dialog, and possibly ambiance music, combat music. And to simplify the job for anyone who codes this set encounter points. 1 or 2 spells whatever. This game/demo may be short but it could be a decent experience so far.

Project idea

So an idea that I’ve had for a while would play a little like this.

I always did like Mirror’s Edge as a game since it had an interesting way of presenting itself so I wanted to create something similar. Here’s where I nerd out: my idea was to implement the running system and style of mirrors edge but to incorporate Spider-man. Why Spider-man? Because for my project, I want to create a first-person web slinging experience. It was all be in first person and I’d like to incorporate real enough physics like in the Spider-man 2 game.

Journal Entry 9: Final Group Project Proposal

The Title of project will be King of Israel – God’s chosen.

Game concept :

This game is based on the life of the Biblical character, David. The game chronicles the adventures of David as a young shepherd who had to defend his sheep from wolves, and bears. As he grows older and more experienced he gets to fight a Philistine soldier called Goliath (hence the term David vs Goliath). After he fights Goliath he is then chased by the reigning King Saul, who is jealous of David’s popularity. Our young shepherd becomes a national fugitive and must constantly be on the run from King Saul. Eventually Saul dies and David ascends throne of Israel, hence the title. As King he is also the commander of the Israelite Army and he goes on many battles.

Player’s role : David as a shepherd and brave soldier.

Player’s Actions : Walk (control arrow keys to avoid obstacles) / pick up and carry – shoot (throw) stones to enemies / kneel and pray / yield / and so on.

Sheep’s : Graze / walk / bleat / panicky die

Wolves : Howl / bark / growl / attack / die

Bears : Growl / stand / attack / die

Rewards : finding sheep, recharging Faith gauge and grows aura by reading Bible he found or praying with fantastic audio and visual effects.

Failure sequence : When losing sheep or under attack of enemies, unpleasant audio and visual effects of screaming sheep and blood.

I missed many things we talked earlier for the project so it will be added soon, these are the rough idea we have so far for the final project!

Journal Entry 9 : Final Project Proposal

My final project proposal is a game (oh wow!! so original). I was thinking about the kinds of games I really enjoyed playing myself and I decided I wanted to make a game very similar to (FF Tactics) this isnt the only game that uses this style of game play but it is one of the more popular ones.

As we can see the basic concept is a grid like environment in which all objects move from one grid space to another and effect other grid spaces in certain ways depending on if it is occupied or not.

journal entry 9: final project proposal

My idea for a final project is to create a game (shocking, I know).  I have two ideas for a game, not sure which one I wan to do more.

Game Idea #1:

Who here remembers House of the dead? The classic FPS, often found in arcades or movie theaters , where all you have to do is point and shoot to kill the zombies. Obviously, since I have a month a month to work on my final project, I wouldn’t be able to replicate the game fully, but I would be happy if I could replicate one section of the game.

Game Idea #2:

Who has been to a carnival and seen this game, duck hunt (not sure if this is the correct name)? With this game, I could probably do it in the time frame that I have.

Ideally, I would like to do game #1, since it is more of a challenge and overall a better game. However, I feel like with the time frame I have to complete the project (aka have something done so I can get graded for it. since the end of class doesn’t mean I can stop working on the project), I may go with game #2. But let’s even see if my idea get’s picked. If it does, woohoo! If not, oh well. Maybe I will work on the project anyways outside of school.

Journal Entry – Group Project

I am proud to be part of the amazing Gabby, Remy, Justin, and Stephanie Group for our final project for 3D animation. We intend to create a template for a video game that is geared toward 9-14 year olds. It is quest oriented and will assign animal-human hybrid characters based on the users personality traits and skills. Their success will depend on how well they then utilize those traits. Are they brave? Do they like solving puzzles? Do they like working on their own or with others?

Because I am interested in getting really good at doing animation I hope to use this project as a chance to develop some skill at creating a basic snapshot of a cohesive world with a clear aesthetic vision. (One can hope, right?)

This will mean utilizing several options.

1. Importing – There are a lot of Blender models out there all ready and for a
beginner such as myself it would be foolish to attempt this task without taking advantage of that fact.

2. Modeling – Taking basic structures that the program provides and
turning them into something else. We have all seen the Blender monkey
but can I make a simpler one? What about man made structures?

3. Applying textures and UV mapping – learning to do this will help me
customize my creations and the materials I import. This will help with visual cohesion.

4. Logic – It is my responsibility to make sure that what I design is appropriate
for the quest and adds to the adventure. That means listening carefully
to my teammates, planning carefully, and thinking logically.
