My name is Islam Mahrouss and I am currently a student at New York City College of Technology. I am majoring in Communication Design and aspiring to become a graphic designer. Since the age of five I have always had a passion for art. I did everything from drawing to walls to painting on my face even. It wasn’t until the age of 12 where I really started to dedicate my time to improving my skills as an artist. Which is one of my goals at City Tech, I want to grow my skills as a designer and learn new things that I didn’t know about. For example, typography, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator. My interest in graphic design didn’t start until I start my college career although, I always knew I wanted to do something in art and graphic design stuck out to me because it is everywhere in our world and it communicates a message which I find very interesting and special. Some of the courses that I have taken so far are raster and vector, type and media, and graphic design principles. I think these three classes would have been my favorite so far because I learned so many things from them. In raster and vector I learned the difference between raster and vector program and the different file formats. I also learned how to use photoshop and illustrator. I also learned how to use in design in type and media as well as the basic rules of design type. Currently in my typographic design class I am also learning more about typography and indesign. In my graphic principles class I learned many different things such as identifying textures, patterns and some color theory. I look forward to what else I will learn in the future and hope to expand my knowledge of graphic design.
