Laser Harp is a relatively complicated system, which combines different entertainment
technology areas together. The final product will reflect various skills that I acquired in course of my studies at City Tech. These skills include, but are not limited to the ability to control various
devices using MIDI, ability to use the Arduino microcontroller and to
write programming code, ability to build a laser harp enclosure using different materials, ability to manipulate lasers, automated lighting fixtures, sound software, and mechanical devices
through MIDI. Also, the laser harp is a visually attractive device, and, at the same time, a very
challenging project to build.
My goal is to design and build a relatively inexpensive (<$500) framed laser harp. I will be both
Technical Designer and Executor of the designs. The harp will be Arduino controlled and will
have a MIDI output in order to connect to any MIDI device. It will also have 7 laser/photo-resistor circuits. The Arduino will constantly check for state changes for each input pin within
the main loop of the code. When the laser beam will be broken, a logic HIGH will be sent to the controller and interrupt the circuit. I will also make a custom PCB using copper clad board and
PCB etchant, as well as design and build custom enclosure (most likely in the shape of a harp)
out of different materials.
