For tonight’s dinner, my father asked
me to choose a bottle of wine, and I randomly chose this Bordeaux. I just
thought this was interesting to share. This is the first Bordeaux I ever tasted,
and it was too acidity for me. It had a strong spicy taste. The spice reminds me
of pepper, but the wine itself smells like tobacco and oak. This seems to be
like a medium body wine and the wine looked clear in the glass.
Thank you for sharing your first Bordeaux wine with us. You chose well because the wine you tasted was of GREAT value. When we study about French wines we will explore the Cru system and learn about the various vineyard designations. We will learn that Chateau Gruaud-Larose is a prestigious 3rd growth wine and that Sargent Gruaud-Larose is a second label for the Chateau.
Does anyone know what I mean by a second label? Has anyone else ever had a Bordeaux?
After today s class, second wine means that chateaux do make wines for different market segment, especially that their first growth (cru) usually requires some years for aging so wineries have to make cheaper wines by using not as good juice as they would use for their highest quality to create a cash flow to operate the winery, example of that today was the chateaux 2005 Lafite de Rothschild 2nd wines.( Which by the way was great)
