knickerbocker hotel

I like the site visit to the 1 hotel because  it’s a great historic hotel with beautifully updated rooms. The soundproofing is excellent. The bar upstairs has a very nice view and is a good place to just catch the breeze and relax. I dislike the lobby because it is a little cramped and hard to navigate .

While I was at the 1 hotel, I learned that to work in a hospitality industry you need to have a right attitude for this industry, you must have to be patients with guests, and always have smile on your face. Second, I learned listening skills is the most significant because  good listening skills can be considered both a motivational and customer service tool.

Knickerbocker Visit

Visiting the hotel was a truly amazing experience for me. It allowed me to get an idea of what it is that I want to do once I graduate from college. It gave me a glimpse of what the life of being in the hospitality field will look like and it seemed just a bit difficult but it’s somewhere that I want to be. Also, I would like to keep in contact with the people that I had the opportunity to meet with by reaching out and say thank you for having me and it was truly a pleasure to be there.

Brooklyn Bridge Reflection

Monae and I (Anahi) focused on cultural tourism within Brooklyn Bridge and Dumbo. Cultural tourism is tied to the lifestyle, history, art and religion of people that has shaped Brooklyn. In Brooklyn Bridge and Dumbo, activities that relates to cultural tourism are, art auctions that brings local artists together to sell their art, which allows them to show other locals and tourists their talent. As we walked around, we observed many places that people can sit and relax. One in particular are the steps that were constructed with recycled material from destroyed buildings and structures. These steps overlooks a beautiful scenery of the river and manhattan, which creates an overall calming feeling. I also observed lots of plaques on the ground of the docks that symbolized and marked the history of Brooklyn which relates to both historic and cultural tourism.

Prospect Park

Prospect Park is located in what’s considered “the heart” of Brooklyn.“Landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux envisioned Brooklyn’s Prospect Park as a pastoral refuge in the midst of a rapidly urbanizing city.”This park was then renovated and restored in 1987 when it went through a long period of decline. It was also very critical to restore this park in order to have somewhere strictly green, allow people from the community to be apart of it and allow tourists to visit.

State location: Central Park

In 1853, NYC legislators were introduced to the plan of Central Park and in order to execute it, they had to acquire 700-800 acres of land through the use of eminent domain. Despite the on going debates and controversies, eventually people got on board with the construction of Central Park because of the positive impacts. Some of those impacts were 20,000 job openings and over 270,000 plantation of trees and shrubs which impacted both the economy and environment greatly. Central Park also established New York’s remarkable reputation which then lead many tourists to visit and locals to adventure through their city.
