Steve Jobs.

Steve Job built the worlds most-valuable technology company by creating devices that changed how people use electronic and revolutionized the computer, music and mobile phone industries. Today you see his products everywhere from is iMac’s to his iPhones, without his products people wouldn’t have jobs they have today or things will be a lot harder to accomplish.

Steve Job, also known as Steven Paul Jobs, was born in San Francisco, California on February 24th, 1955.  Steve Job was actually given up for adoption by a young couple.  He was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs and was given his infamous name.  His mother was an accountant and his father was a Coast Guard veteran and machinist.  Job’s was a very intelligent boy, but he always seemed distracted at school or a “class clown”, but when he actually studied he performed extraordinarily well in the exam, so much so that his teachers suggested having him skip a few grades. Steve Jobs attended Homestead High School in 1971; there he met his partner Steven Wozniak.

Steven jobs later graduated high school and enrolled at Reed College in Portland Oregon; this was an expensive liberal arts college. Eventually Job’s dropped out of college, and instead began attending creative classes.  In 1974, he took a position as a video game design with Atari.  Steven jobs traveled around India after leaving Atari, he seemed to want to find some type of inspiration or “calling”. When he was 21 he returned and began Apple Computers with his partner Wozniak, they started in jobs garage. They started the computer business because they realized that there was a huge gap in the computer market. Computers at the time were mainframes; they were also so large that one could fill a room and they were very expensive; so they got to work. After a while Job’s and Wozniak had become efficient enough to try and build personal computers. The team produced fifty assembled computers that were sold to a local Mountain View electronics store.  This encouraged them to start Apple Corporation on April 1, 1979.  One of the features that the these machines had that others didn’t was the use of a TV as the display systems, text was displayed at a 60 characters per second which was pretty bad but it was faster than the teleprompters used in that era.  Apple Corporation was named after Steve Job’s favorite fruit, which I personally found very interesting. The logo appears to have a bite on the apple, which represented a bite, which really was a play on word with byte.

They both agreed on having Steve Jobs control the business side of the company and Steve Wozniak would control the design side. By the 1980 the personal computer era was well underway. Apple was a strong company and improved its products to remain ahead as more competitors entered the marketplace. In 1984 Apple introduced a revolutionary new model named the Macintosh. The on-screen display has small pictures called icons, to use the computer the user pointed at an icon and clicked a button uses a new device called the mouse. Surprisingly The Macintosh did not sell well to business; it lacked features other personal computers had, such as a corresponding high quality printer. The failure of this product foreshadowed the beginning of Job’s downfall at Apple.

After an internal power struggle, apple released Job’s from all his duties. To show his pride he sold all but one of his 6.5 million shares in the company for 70 million. He later went on the find neXT Inc. a computer company that built machines with futuristic designs and he ran the operating systems. Ironically Apple ended up buying neXT in 1996 resulting in Steve Jobs returning to Apple to serve once more as its CEO from 1997 until his future retirement in 2011.

In 1986 Steve Jobs bought “The Graphics Group” from Lucas films computer graphics division for 10 million dollars. He renamed the company Pixar. Job’s idea for the company was for it to become a high-end graphic hardware developer but Pixar moved on to do what it is famous for today- make animated films.  Eventually after making Toy Story in 2006 Disney bought Pixar from Steve Jobs. In 1998 Jobs announced the release of the iMac, which featured powerful features at an affordable price.

In 2003 jobs discovered that he had a neuroendocrine tumor a rare but operable form of pancreatic cancer. He did not go into surgery right away, he instead chose to alter his pescovegtarian diet while weighting eastern treatment options. For 9 months he declined surgery making Apple’s board of directors nervous. They were nervous that shareholders would pull their stocks if word got out that their CEO was ill.  In 2004 he eventually had a successful surgery to remove the pancreatic tumor. Early in 2009 Job’s weight loss became surfacing predicting his health issues has returned, which included a liver transplant. He responded to these concerns by stating he was dealing with a hormone imbalance. Steve Jobs was always a private man he never disclosed information about his family. In 1990’s Job’s met Laurence Powell at Stamford business school, they married on March 18, 1991 and lived together with their three children.

Steve Jobs is an essential part for Art and Design and Graphic Arts students who major in these majors use apple everyday. MacBook’s, iMac’s, iPad, and iPhones are all advanced technology that makes it easier for us to use. We run programs with a lot of data in it like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc., with Mac’s the programs run smoothly. His accomplishments were all convenient for his customers. He created portable music players that were different and fun. He didn’t just focus on devices he always-created music software like iTunes store. ITunes offered consumers an easy and affordable way to download songs to their computers and iPods. He was successful in the technical side of things his device worked well and took off quickly, but he also made sure the products were appealing. Steve Job’s products were always stylish for its era they were sleek and stylish.  Every year it felt like his products became smaller and slimmer. He also tackled the tablet trend and now everywhere you go every company carries tablets like the Ipad. A lot of people like to compare pc with macs and I honestly don’t think you can compare them. Apple computers are amazing and so responsive, especially when you’re working on programs that have a lot of data within it programs like Photoshop and illustrator require the computer to do a lot of things but mac is always on the job. Every year Apple would come out with new products, MacBook Air, IPod, IPhone, and all other companies would come out with technologies trying to top apples products but they weren’t very successful.

Steve Jobs is undoubtedly a revolutionary man. He changed the face of technology and broke down the barrier of what is possible. He made products for any kind of person and he did it with style. On October 5th 2011, Apple Inc. announced that its co-founder had passed away. After battling with his pancreatic caner for nearly a decade he passed away in Palo Alto. He was 56 years old.
