Senior Project Abstracts, due 4/15

Please add your Senior Project abstract (idea) as a comment to this post by Monday night.

It must NOT Be a link; it should be the actual sentence, thank you.

Example:
The conversation around climate change is filled with guilt and fear. The problem is that, according to psychology, guilt and fear make us withdraw from a situation. Using social competition, a proven motivator in psychology, to get people to act on climate change. I want to implement a campaign that is a month-long challenge in which participants reduce and track their carbon footprint while being able to see how they compare to others.

Above is ALL that is needed for the statement.

In the upcoming weeks, you will use this statement and feedback to create a research paper fueled by research and potential outcome. This is what you can hand to your advisor.

The problem with the above statement is: People do not deal with climate change conversations because of guilt and fear.

Insight: The youth/millennials tend to enjoy competitions via social media.

Concept: Create a month-long social media campaign to motivate people to reduce their carbon footprint.

Climate change is such a huge issue that making sustainable choices on an individual level can feel pointless. On top of feeling pointless it can be discouraging to feel that you have no control over the role you play in the cycle of consumption. My project will address this by creating sustainable packaging (and a comprehensive identity to go along with it) made from seeded cardboard that the user can bury in dirt and grow a plant from. Not only will this result in 0 waste packaging but it will also act as a healing process for the user, and help them regain a sense of control. In a world of rampant consumption, creation is the ultimate rebellion.

A topic I think I’ll want to do is about representing food dishes Ive learned to make based on my Caribbean background. As a woman of Haitian & Saint Vincent background, and where I live and grew up in NYC, I see a lack of my culture when it comes to food.

For my project I want to do a cookbook representing dishes I’ve learned to make from both sides of my background and I want it to show the love and knowledge I’ve gained and continue to learn.

Reason i decided to do this is because I just love food, and I love my family who taught me not only how to make these dishes but to love where I came from.

The issue that need to be addressed is misinformation, we’ve been dealing with fake news and misinformation from all social media platform. misinformation/Fake news has been around since the dawn of time, It hasn’t been much active until the rise of the internet and the dot com bubble, it also gain popularity during the 2017 presidential election. For my project I’ll be working on interactive offline website that is a parody of twitter, promoting misinformation/Fake news.

I am interested in pursuing a career in advertising and I believe a key aspect in creating compelling work shines through story. For my senior project, I aim to create a short animated film for a song called “Stillness is the move” by the Dirty Projectors. They have a music video for this song already but by choosing animation instead of live video, I will be able to recreate and re-represent a new story. Choosing this as my senior project would showcase storyboarding, editing, motion graphics, and visual creation skills.

The topic I am addressing involves increased green spaces in New York City. Studies have shown that little to no access to green spaces in urban areas may face difficulties with health, crime, and lack of community engagement. The concept can be a social media campaign that will explore all of the ways green spaces have positively impacted the lives of those who spend time there, how long they travel to get there, and what more green spaces in underrepresented neighborhoods could do for their community. Some examples of this can be @humansofny, @meetcutesnyc, and @recess_therapy.

A second  topic I am considering is a running initiative for all groups of people who want to get moving but seek support through community. This may take the form of an app, like Discord or Slack mixed with All Trails.

I am also considering addressing the topic of the increasing amount of stray cats in New York City. Cats can reproduce up to five times a year at most and give birth to a litter of 4-6 kittens. There are many organizations who are for TNR (trap-neuter-release) but many people may be unaware of these services. The concept I am considering is motion graphic ads to inform the public about such services, ways they can get involved to protect stray cats, and keep their population controlled.

Fashion isn’t just about expressing oneself; it’s a powerful medium for driving social change. I’m dedicated to creating a brand that merges fashion with activism, allowing people to confidently “wear their morals”. Each collection is meticulously designed to represent a specific cause, ensuring the clothing looks appealing while carrying a meaningful message. With every purchase, a portion of the proceeds from each collection goes directly to supporting its corresponding cause, amplifying its impact, and driving real change.

The social media campaign will showcase the clothing while providing information about the cause it represents, engaging our audience, spreading awareness, and educating them about the issues we’re passionate about. And at the heart of our brand, I’m committed to maintaining environmental and ethical consciousness, ensuring sustainability in every aspect of our operations.

It’s the pressure to conform to social pressure and social standards in fashion standards. It’s the pressure to follow what’s trending and feeling the pressure to follow.  The constant feeling to keep up and follow others. Instead  you should be focusing on yourself by putting your unique flair and style to your clothes. The ability to be able to express yourself freely and that everyone has their own unique style. It’s the ability to embrace your own style and feeling empowered in your own unique style.  It focused on Gen Z and on millennials because they feel more pressured by celebrities, social media , society, and influence by their surroundings. I can establish  a brand and be a voice, social media campaign, make a store that has a different unique style that is not expensive , social media posts, posters, and others.

Physical fitness is an important aspect of daily routine, to maintain that we stay active and moving. Without staying active, we are at risk of disease, internal issues and mental health problems. Younger audiences, such as teenagers and young adults are less active than any other age group, which is who I will target to promote physical needs and workouts. By doing so, I will brainstorm and plan an online campaign, contest or system that encourages younger audiences to step outside with incentives by doing so.

People like to travel the world, but sometime they don’t want to travel alone and have no one to travel with. The idea of embarking on such adventures alone can be daunting. This feeling holds people back from exploring the world. Therefore, I plan to create an app for people who want to travel with a stranger.

The problem with the above statement is: Learning new languages becomes difficult as we get older and many of us struggle to get accurate translations when communicating to others who don’t know the same language, often times leading to miscommunication.

Insight: Learning new languages can be time consuming and costs money to take classes.

Concept: Create a brand/app that accurately translates any language and offers free in-depth lessons and classes to become fluent in their desired language.

The topic and choices around education for students brings a huge amount of problems. The central conflict is how there are a huge number of challenges for them to face, especially those that require special needs. I want to start an effort to limit the amount of challenges students face when it comes to education and help them feel more included when it comes to being introduced to this kind of environment. I intend to not only make these students feel welcomed, but also help them be able to get the education they would need to help them succeed in life.

The absence of a popular Israeli drink like Arak and lemonade(Lemonarak) in the United States presents a gap in the market for refreshing and unique alcoholic beverages. My project proposes to address this gap by introducing a brand of an alcoholic drink: LemonArak), offering consumers a new and exciting option for their summer refreshments. To accomplish this, I will develop a comprehensive brand identity for the drink, design its packaging, and execute a targeted advertisement campaign to introduce it to the US market. Through this initiative, I aim to not only fill a need for a refreshing beverage but also to promote cultural diversity by familiarizing people with Israeli cuisine.
