The Yellow Wallpaper is a strange tale, possibly the strangest tale that’s been read this entire semester. The story is read through a third person perspective.  She is referred to as Jane in many instances. She is diagnosed with a condition that makes her seem crazy or whatnot. In reality, she slowly goes insane. In the room lies a yellow wallpaper , and she slowly starts to see that the wallpaper itself comes to life. As she decends into a deep crazy trace, she sees what appears to be a woman who is trapped in the painting. She eventually decends into madness, and tears down the wallpaper in the hopes of saving the woman that, to her, is apparently trapped, and its her job to save her.

The story implies that women are oppressed, as in the beginning of the story, Jane’s husband gets her help without some sort of hint of what she needs. Essentially she is held without consent. She also is unable to voice her expression on her needs, leaving her at ther mercy of the doctors, which in turn, are unable to diagnose her correctly.

A gothic theme would be essentially a dark prison theme as seen in the book Dracula. Jane, or the narrator, has no control of her choices, and is held in a prison that doesnt contain the usual bars and gates.
