Response 8 (Malcolm)

Earlyer this week we had read a short story called “Young Goodman Brown”by Nathaniel Hawthorne is about a devout man in his religon, and one night he sts off on a journey into the woods, which thats odd as Brown is a puritan, and as a puritan they belive in all of the supernatural things like witches, and the devil. Because of this they have a tendency to not go out at night as they belive that all evil comes out into the darkness. This to me had got even stranger as Brown was in the woods he stumbles upon a old man who claims to know his farther, and then reveails himself as the devil, and along with him a familiar face appeared it was someone Brown reconized as Goody Cloyse the same person who taught Brown catechism take a mask off, and revealed to be a witch. Someone he has known for a very long time become one of these evil beings. As the story progresses Brown gets to the ceremony in which he sees his wife Faith becomes a monster as well. To me this is kind of spme type of justice as Brown was drifting away in the marrige to selfishly do as he see fit, putting his Faith (no pun intended) over his marrige to now tell her “look up to heaven, and resist the wicked one”. He seam to not care enough to stay with his wife so why doeds he care now. Is it because of love, or faith, her name being ironic given thats what Brown cares about more. I could be wrong, but that comes with the territory.
