After reading Dracula I feel that there are many similarities with Shelley’s gothic novel of Frankenstein. The two texts are from the human perspective and shows two creatures that because of there societal abnormalities are feared. Dracula is described are barbaric because of his hairy body and fangs. The creature in Frankenstein is described as having yellow dull skin and an extremely large stature. The two characters are described larger, which would make the reader understand why the other characters would fear them. People seem to fear the unique and unknown in society. Another connection between the two characters is the that they are inhuman and mythical beings. There is also the judgement places on the two creatures from the other characters. Harker’s first encounter with Count Dracula was completely judged on Dracula’s physical attributes and these characteristics gave him an uneasy feeling. The initial fear he felt was only because of the creatures unique appearance and not because of his personality. Dracula tries to show Harker he can act like a normal English man but Harker soon sees the true nature of Draculas backward ways. Both Dracula and the creature are judged by humans because they are different instead of being judged on who they are. Dracula in the end is someone to fear because he prays on the innocent but it is not till further in the text that Harker’s fear is true. Frankenstein’s creature becomes a murder after he seeks vengeance on all mankind because of the neglect of his maker.
