I’ve decided that I want my topic to be “Cancel Culture” and the term “Canceled” and how it’s probably the most misused phrase in today’s social climate. So many celebrities have been canceled for just speaking their mind or just their opinions. Now just to clarify many celebrities who have been canceled deserved it such as Bill Cosby or R Kelly. But besides celebrities who have committed disgusting acts and crimes, there are the select few who are seen as great people, and then someone tries to defame their character. Whether it’s bringing up things from that specific person’s past like Joe Rogan. Or trying to cancel Dave Chappelle for speaking his mind on some serious topics in today’s society without being hateful but informative and being able to weave it into comedy made it go over so many people’s heads. . The main argument I want to present is that this idea of “Cancel Culture” is a very unnecessary thing because just by saying someones canceled you’re still bringing light to their name instead of doing what we should do which is not even pay attention to those celebrities anymore.
