Preliminary Research and Picking a Topic

The topic I’m interested in is Climate change because if nothing is done to prevent it would only worsen in the times to come. Due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities, we can see the effects of climate now, glaciers have shrunk, plants and animals ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Millions of people are already suffering from it from prolonged drought in the sub, and the pacific. A very recent example is scorching temperatures caused deadly h-Saharan Africa to devasting tropical storms sweeping across Southeast Asia, the Caribbeaneatwaves in Canada and Pakistan, and set off wildfires in Greece and Siberia. There was severe flooding in Germany and China, while in Madagascar, a particularly prolonged and intense drought has driven 1 million people to the brink of what is being described as the world’s first “climate change-induced famine”. IPCC and organizations made up of 1300 scientists from many countries predict that increases in global mean temperature of less than 1.8 to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit above 1990 levels will produce beneficial impacts in some regions and harmful ones in others. A few questions I have are

What can be done to help prevent climate change?

How can we help prevent it?

How much will worsen if nothing is done?

What are the causes?

Anthony, This is a good and timely topic, but you do need to narrow down the topic since an Op-Ed is so short. I think you might want to discuss one policy or intervention that is supported by some and not by others and argue for or against it. Or you might look at one effect of global warming (such as temperature changes which you discuss in your post here) and argue for a particular solution that is being debated.
