Pick A Model & Organize Your Ideas

The model I decided to use is a letter. With a letter I feel like I can truly express what is on my mind without having the fears of being shy or sugar coating the truth. I feel like using a letter really helps me target my intended audience. The topic I will be writing about is coming from a first hand view of a first responder who is on the streets almost 20 hours everyday describing the risks we taken and the unpleasant dangerous situations we interact serving the citizens of New York State, which is myself. I intend to target the leadership of the FDNY EMS Department. I first got driven to become a EMT due to my family background, literally everyone is in the medical field. However, before COVID-19 hit I wanted to make a difference in my life because I felt as if my life was boring but I always wanted to give back to the community, so what best way to do it then help those who are in need? When I first started I was the youngest in my EMT school, 17 years old. Needless to say, I was very nervous and worried that I would not be taken seriously. I was surrounded by people older than me ages 25-30, 40-45 and some slightly over the 50 year mark line. The purpose of writing this letter is to describe ideas that could change the way we are treated in the streets and ways all units can stay safe when on tour. I’m tired of hearing ” It’s not in the budget” as an excuse to why we can’t get supplies we need to prevent life threatening injuries such as issuing ballistic vests to crews. Which unfortunately to me is an excuse until someone gets truly hurt. I want to lay this letter out by being persuasive as possible in the introduction to then using real life statistics on crime to create and strengthen my argument, then my conclusion summarizing everything.

Jeff, Your goal then is to discuss the dangers of the job, which maybe people don’t realize, and the purpose is to get necessary equipment to help you stay safe. This sounds good.
