The discourse community I am writing about is the EMS community. Some problems in this discourse community is the lack of pay. We work in dangerous and unpleasant environments dealing with a lot of trauma and blood born pathogens , being exposed to any and everything. There is a organization called EMSPAC which Is a non-profit dedicated to achieving wage/benefit parity and justice to all EMS providers. EMSPAC strongly believes that many EMS providers aren’t properly being compensated for the day to day work they are being asked to deliver as well as not receiving any lifetime benefits such as health insurance. They are trying to bring awareness by signing petitions and hosting events to get the word out. The citizens of NYC as well as our government officials need to be aware of this ongoing problem. The audience needs to know because we are understaffed due to unfair pay and who do you expect to come to you when you call 911? Many EMS providers are quitting causing lack of resources and long wait response times to 911 calls.
