Hi all- here is our class generated list on the similarities we see among all the education narratives we have read.
- Significant experience or moment that is a turning point telling the reader how they felt, thought, happened and what the reader can take away from the writer’s experience
- Audience is often people who are eager to learn and explore and gain insight and information–students?
- Clear on the specific location that the author is having their experience
- Talks directly to the reader
- Use “I” –except for Plato
- Each describes a kind of struggle they overcome–this is often the author’s background/context
- Childhood is often referenced
- All are curious to learn something new
- Reference to some outside person, author, information that helps you understand the personal better
- Theme of fitting in and finding your place/yourself/your voice is common
- Shift in the person–mindset or something else in them
