I usually create a surface level list of ideas that I would like to expand upon. Then I create a blurb based off these ideas that would usually be my base for my first draft. These blurbs would eliminate some ideas due to a lack of what I could elaborate on. I would further narrow this list by gauging the quality of what I wrote and the opinions of my peers. I’ve developed a habit of consulting my peers before I even have a draft done, because they can provide insight to other elements of the writing process. Unfortunately, I do tend to leave things to the last minute, the adrenaline rush urges me to simply write and not overthink what I’m putting down. Overthinking the first draft seems silly but I seem to be able to overthink basically anything. It also occurs to me that because there’s typically no required second or third draft it makes me feel like this first draft is basically my rusty final. I’d like to take it upon myself to make those second and third drafts with my peers’ reviewal for, hopefully, a better final.
