Training day 2

Today we learned how we should save and name each project we are working on. We also reviewed some of the designs and ideas we made yesterday and received some tips to improve. This helped me pay more attention to some details. I also like to see the work done by my colleagues and it is interesting how we can have different thoughts on the same topic.

I spoke to my partner briefly. We offered our opinions on each others designs.

End of the Semester Reflections, Fall 2018 Cerena Reid

Now that my semester is over, my focus for next year is to develop my portfolio, sharpen my skills on Adobe Design platform and improve my flexibility on various desktop models. Looking back I can honestly say that learning from and bonding with my co-interns and supervisors has been the highlight of my experience working at FC. For those graduating and to our upcoming designers, my words of encouragement and advice would be to never stop learning and to remember what first sparked your desire to pursue design. As long as you remember why you will never lose your drive.

Mid Semester

I have came across one challenging project while working with FC. I’ve manage to accomplish the project after becoming more proactive in my communication. It’s was hard as well as a learning experience. I enjoyed seeing the end results of all of my projects. Sometimes when I’m working in the midst of an developing idea, reality doesn’t always mearsure up with the visuals.   A prime example would be my group project focusing on campaign for state awarness of Pink Tax. My partner Simone Alexis worked deligently through research, potential headlines/tagline and marketable giveaways. Although we’ve manage to come up with great results we forgot to factor in cost. We ended up researching various companies that provided limited to extensive services for their price range provided. This was my first experience stimulating the business aspect of my career of choice. Overall I find that FC has left me opened to more opportunities in terms of growth in design concepts and clients relations.

Day 5

What did you learn today? I’ve learned how to communicate ideas and concept effectively in order to remain on the same page visually as my peers

What challenges did you face? the challenge I’m facing is multi-tasking, being able to stay aware of my surroundings whilst being immersed in the design process.

In what way were you able to help each? We were able to provide useful critique and offer new perspectives to better our current concepts.

Day 4

What did you learn today? I’ve learned about the inner workings of working in a team. That it’s important to look ahead and create contingency plans.

What challenges did you face? ( how did you plan to overcome the said challenge?) Today’s main challenge was turning intangible ideas into something more concrete within the span of one day and a few hours.

In what way were you able to help each? We were able to contribute and volunteer workable concepts to ensure that we got something to show before we leave the office.

Day 3

What did you learn today? I’ve learned about the FC Reproduction Team and the process of creating print pick up and delivery

What challenges did you face? ( how did you plan to overcome the said challenge?) Today’s main challenge was figuring out ways I could contribute to the group project. We were able to divide our responsibilities based on the various modes of communication we used to express our ideas.

In what way were you able to help each? w]We had essentially made the group into a safe zone for new challengable concepts, which allow us to remain focused on the task at hand as well as served to motivate us to succeed.

Day 2

What did you learn today? I’ve learned how to maintain a professional relationship with the clients; as well as the proper way to address them via email.

What challenges did you face? ( how did you plan to overcome the said challenge?) Today’s main challenge was working effectively on a deadline. I was able to complete my baseline design as well as communicative my concept through a series of sketches.

In what way were you able to help each? I’ve gained a new perspective in term of my color schematics through the very helpful critiques of my peers. This helped me to better understand how certain colors work with and against each other.

Winter Break Reflections

I learned different tools like the Shape Builder and Width Tool, which will really help speed up my work flow in illustrator. Learning to use the define patterns in illustrator and Photoshop will be great to create easy consumable work in textiles.

Flavor Paper is a new website I can look to to create patterns, and I’m eager to look at the links Kevin shared to learn more about accessibility.

I’d like to challenge myself in more animated illustration, such as working with gifs like I did with the FYP Pizza Party Postcard, but on a more complicated scale.
