    This is a short video about the Pygmalion effect (a.k.a. the Rosenthal effect). It occurs when others’ expectations of a target person affect the target person’s performance positively.

    The opposite is the golem effect, in which low expectations lead to a decrease in performance.

    It might be a stretch, but I think this can be applicable on a macro scale to an entire class of people. Since we’re talking about race, and we have recently watched the film 13th, I’ll take the example of African Americans. Every way in which AA’s have been treated during and since slavery may have produced the “culture of poverty”, and other negative stereotypes associated with AA’s.
