Process

Digital college:

When I started doing the digital college on PhotoShop, I had too many blues with no texture, and I was using too many photos. The instructions said to use 10 pics of texture. I was thinking and pushing myself too hard. So, I followed the instructions and made my digital college. From left to right, the gradient goes from dark to light. I wished I could reverse the blue skies picture because I feel like the white clouds should be on the right to match with the gradient.

Rubbings:

For some surfaces, you have to press really hard to get texture. On the top left, the two white round lines were from a heater grill. On the top middle, it’s a fan grill. The cube texture is from a shelf container. The bottom texture of the cube texture is from a metal railing. The texture on the bottom left is a container. Finally, the texture on the bottom right is a phone case.

Value scale

Using pencils with levels are hardness and blackness is easy and better at creating value then using pressure with a pencil. I did not follow the value scale seen on the paper. Your own view on value is probably better than what is assigned.

Hand drawn texture (Talk about some since there are too many)

At first, I thought we had to create our own textures, but the professor said that we can take inspiration from real life textures on the internet. This made the part a bit easier.

For the brick gradation, I did a gradient that started dark from the bottom to lighter. I wished that the bottom bricks were darker. Maybe certain lightings and edits ruined it, but it looks better physically.

The 3rd texture on the first row is a bunch of gradient rocks in a black background.

The 4th texture on the first row are wooden planks

The 4th texture on the second row are tiger spots. I made them by making some parts of the black shapes bigger and I made some spots not perfectly closed.

3rd texture on the third row was me trying to emulate rope texture. Probably the most difficult one since it took time to make those shapes.

4th texture, 3rd row is a black background with eraser marks

2nd texture, 4th row is me having crescent dark spots on the circles for the shadows.

I left some backgrounds white because I didn’t want everything to be grey or dark.

Final Thoughts:

I think this project was a success. I learned about gradation, value, and texture. What I could have better was follow the instructions more carefully so that I won’t waste time trying to figure out what to do (photoshop and hand drawn texture).
