Assignmrnt one, Solar Decathlon

1-The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

This building has solar panels for using natural light and saving energy . Green wall and  lots of planets are used  for design on the nice way. Also , the green wall out side of the building  can provide more privacy for inside the building too.

2-   Team Alberta: University of Calgary

Designers  divided the spaces on very interesting way ; two simple room for bed room an one complicated room for kitchen. They use green wall inside the building. They provide solar energy for building. building hag large windows that is good for using of natural light.

3-Southern California Institute of Architecture and California Institute of Technology

Designers  provide solar panel for saving energy and they have done it on the interesting way. The building has potential to have court yard. The furniture is lined up with the detail of the design ( spatially the lines on the ceiling).

4- Arizona State University and The University of New Mexico

That is a good design. They provide good shade and shadow for building for better using of sun light. They use light colors inside of the building , so the spec seems larger. The building has solar panel for saving energy too.

Top Four Solar Decathlon 2013 projects part 1

1. Stanford University (cs 5)

Fancy open interior(public) that is link with porch. Plus side the interior is very luminous because of the ribbon clear story and curtain glass wall in front and the back side of the building respectively.

2. Missouri University of Science and Technology (cs 16)

“The prominent photovoltaic system is optimized for flat roofs and uses reflectors between the rows of panels to increase total energy production.”

3. Team Austria (cs 1)

Like team Stanford the interior of this building is also  luminous  but in  a different way. The interior of the building is open to two exterior patios which the team states  it “create a balance between interior and exterior and public and semi-public spaces.”

4.  University of Nevada Las Vegas (cs 2)

Weathered wood rain screen shades is the biggest move in term of design in this building.

Four Favorite Projects – Solarcathlon

1.Southern California – Scored 14th

-Love the separation design.

-Solar panels and sunshades covering the outside of the building is beautiful.

-Great open space

2. Kentucky/Indiana – Scored 15th

-Great use of wooden flooring & furniture

-Nice ceiling and light layout

-Simple sunshade ad garden design

3. Santa Clara – Scored 11th

-Beautiful open floor plan

-Great wooden deck

-Clerestory windows

4.Stevens – Scored 4th

-Awesome green roof and garden

-Beautiful interior design

– Very modular design, almost everything can be moved along the rail system to suit the inhabitants preference.
