Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer”

When Mike Bunn wrote “You are already an author” I think he means by this that we all are authors because we write even if we’re not an author as an occupation. We express our thoughts and feelings in our most creative way possible, he made me realize that anybody that can write is an author. Some of the things I write already are arguments, text analysis, poems etc. (you know things to write in school) I’m not really writing when I’m outside of the classroom other than gift letters and resumes. I feel I also write with new techniques and even use a wiser selection of new words the more I write.  My existing expertise will help my reading and writing in college by using what I know into my writing, at the same time making sure I become better at writing. To make sure I use unfamiliar or new words into my reading and writing as time passes on and excel at the collegiate level. Things I would like to try according to Bunn’s article are to start reading more things that I can use for myself, as in new words to say or new writing techniques. Anything that can feed my writing ability instead of just reading to gather Information. When we read like writers, we understand and participate in what we read so it becomes more clearer. Reading like a writer will bring out more fun than just getting bored skimming through words, who knows what we’re missing out on as readers there is more to reading than we know. I would also be interested in jotting down questions as I read, just so I can be informed on where the author is coming from at all times. Therefore I can not only know what I’m reading about, I can also know how it was written.

Time Capsule

Hello end-of-semester self,

The goals and the game plan is to never procrastinate on assignments where I have to hand things in last minute. To always stay afloat with my work and give my best knowledge 100 percent. To have in mind there’s a scheduled meeting that I can’t miss at all or else I’ll be unsure of what’s upcoming. And most importantly, everyday I make sure I’m growing as a learner and developing my mind expanding knowledge. Be aware that this isn’t going to be easy. However you got this as long as you never lose focus and do what you do, we can live our hopes of passing this course and moving on with credits. Writing is going to help me in the future because it will also better my ability of sophisticated English and make me more professional. A formal version of yourself is much accepted in higher platforms, to excel formality in writing is even better. Please note what I’m saying is not only just for this semester, it is advice to take beyond any challenge, job, and/or task for life.
