In the article “What Does It Mean To Read Like A Write?” by Mike Bunns he says “You are already an author”. What I think he means by this is that all because you aren’t a published author doesn’t mean you’re not an author. If you are able to pick up any writing utensil and jot your ideas down on a piece of paper you are an author without even realizing it. “Writing is a series of choices.” You can pick different techniques when it comes to writing. One thing you want to make sure of when you write is you have a genre which means a type of writing such as a poem, friction, non-fiction or manga. One question to ask yourself as you’re writing is what is your purpose and who is the intended audience. Language always plays a role because language is grammar. When people read your writing they are looking for tone, verb tenses, if it’s too formal or informal. Another thing you have to have is evidence like does your evidence use statistics, anecdotes or personal experiences. If someone gets confused about something in your writing they will look at the evidence and language. Writing is all about making choices. Anyone can be an author even if you aren’t a published writer. Things that I write about on a daily basis is about life in general. I like to write about where I see myself in the next 5 years, goals, dreams, my future and past life experiences. I most likely like to write about any life past experiences that I’ve been through because it brought me to be a better person. Life is so full of lessons and I’m thankful for each one. This expertise will help me in my college reading and writing career because without reading like a writer you wouldn’t be able to comprehend a lot of things in life. You won’t understand the author’s purpose, intended audience, genre etc.. All those are really important to know when it comes to writing and reading. There are no right or wrong questions. It’s always good to ask yourself questions as you’re reading or writing like why are you writing this? What is the author trying to day or yourself? You have to train yourself to gain information and there’s so many ways to gain it. You can listen to audio, watch a video and most importantly read! All those key things will help when it comes to reading and writing. Things that I’ve noticed in Bunn’s article that I would like to do in my writing is to make sure I included a 2nd person voice, make sure to include metacognition, techniques, context, genre and etc. Bunn’s taught me how to become a better writer and reading so now that I know how to read like a writer I always look at my writing to see if I include all the things he talked about when it comes to making choices, modeling, writing and etc.
