Graff and Birkenstein -As he puts it himself The Art Of Quoting

Many writers tend to make a plethora of mistakes when it comes to quoting. Some writers quote to little, some writers overquote but there has to be a balance (who sets the balance no one knows but the quotes should flow seemlessly) Another common mistake writers is make is that they assume the quote will speak for itself rather than attempting to merge it in nicely they write up an essay and just throw a couple of quotes in for good measure. Quotes have to be chosen wisely which is not always easy, but quite necessary as the quote has to be relevant to the current passage. In order to properly insert a quote the following criteria must be fulfilled. Surround the quote with a frame of reference (readers should know how the quote is relevant). Don’t do a “Hit and run” quote (as Graff and Birkenstein would put it) meaning you shouldn’t just drop the quote in the sentence and then run off not explaining the quote, you should be trying to blend the person your quoting’s writing with your own. In addition to all I previously stated to adequately frame the quote you need to create a “quotation sandwich” which consists of lead up claims to the quote followed by an explanation think of it as layers (like a sandwich) And finally last but not least make sure not to over analyze a quote while its important to explain it with detail you are not required to write a full essay on every nuance of the quote

P.S. i wasn’t exactly sure what style i was to be writing this in but I hope this is satisfactory.

Research assignment

Why do people lease and buy new cars? I work part time for a leasing company and i wonder why do people even entertain the idea of leasing a new car (assuming they cannot use it as a tax write off). Every knowledgeble person in the industry will agree that its a waste of money yet people keep on leasing, perhaps its the stigma of always having a new car? What i expect to find from some quick research is perhaps a psychological reasoning and maybe some ignorance about depreciation or the fact that the lesse wants to beat on the car and not have to worry about maintanence costs.

After sometime doing research on Manufactures Suggested Retail Price(ing) or MSRP’s of new cars and depreciation i complied a small list of factors. Depreciation; a car loses most of its value within its first five years, first year depreciation is about 20-30% of the cars original MSRP and in five years cars can lose as much as 60% of its original value. However most cars only have a five year warranty so that can probably account for the reason depreciation stabilizes after the first five years and the warranty runs out. so for minimum issues it would make sense to buy a regular car(because sports cars under a lease agreement are proven to beat on by the person leasing it) out of a lease and keep it for a few years and you can still have that new car feeling but have everything under warranty but keep in mind your still paying about 10% of the cars value per year because of depreciation. if you were willing to deal with some potential repairs it would make the most sense to buy a car 5-6 years old where you can pay half price for it and still get another 100,000 miles out of it if you take care of it.

Now to discuss the psycological aspect of it yes it may seem appealing to have a new car and pay say $4-500 a month for may not seem like alot of money at the time but it quickly adds up as your paying the maximum estimated depreciation of the car on top of dealer fees. leasing is incredibly expensive even for medicore quality cars it makes alot more sense to buy a used car and maybe watch some tutorials and read on how to care for your car and take preventive measures to stop the need for repairs. My friend has a 2008 infiniti he paid less than five thousand dollars for and it has many features most new cars don,t have, to lease a similarly performance and featured car would cost at least $450 a month which is $5,400 a year which is more than he paid for the car to being with. On top of all that a lease will make you pay for each scratch on the car as well as giving you a milege limit with your own car you would have much more flexibility.

In conclusion do not lease a car unless you are using it as a tax write off for a business or a sports cars that you are planning on driving extremely hard as its just not worth it.

KW+L Assignment

In today’s non opinionated fact oriented discussion we will see if marijuana should be Legal. Included in this essay we will discuss the prohibition, effect of marijuana and do specific ages and genders have alike opinions. What is marijuana? Marijuana also known as cannabis is a psychoactive drug primarily used for recreational purposes and sometimes used for medical, it gives the user a “high” which alters the thought process in the brain for a few hours sort of like alcohol although one can make an argument that alcohol has a stronger effect both do share some things in common such as driver impairment. Now i know what your thinking why is alcohol fine but if i use cannabis i can go to prison in many states for using. The simple answer to that is alcohol was illegal once but then crime skyrocketed for instance take a man who comes home after a long day at work and takes a drink, Thats fine nothing wrong here. But then comes the prohibition act and this man along with a large majority of the population is now a criminal so yes by those standards crime will sky rocket its like outlawing pepsi everybody does it. However “crime” is still high. The American justice system holds over 2.3 MILLION people in prison the over criminalization of drug use plays a enormous role in this astounding figure as drug offenses account as over half a million of people in prison.Police and prosecutors continue to hand out harsh punishments to people for nothing more than possession. This is unamerican the constitution was created to give each citizen liberty simply possessing a plant should not at all land you in jail if your not affecting anyone but yourself. after some research on the matter i came to what a believe to be a sensible solution would be threefold #1 to increase awareness of negative side affects #2 treat all infractions as you would treat someone with alcohol in their system and finally #3 to establish some type of minimum age to prevent children from using it as children cannot make a unbiased decision. A few last notes im left wondering after researching this why can a person vote and be drafted into the military but cannot have alcohol? How is a lockdown not in violation of our first amendment, govenors and mayors should be in jail it seems more than non violent drug offenders. and finally why do older people seem so opposed to cannabis? in particular women but then again women were behind the orignal prohibition act it seems. So what do you think? should it be legal or illegal and why?
