Talha Burki, The online anti-vaccine movement in the age of COVID-19, October, 2020, https://www.thelancet.com/journals/landig/article/PIIS2589-7500(20)30227-2/fulltext

In this article Talha Burki talk about the anti-vaccine movement in Morden times. He talk about how the member in the anti vaccine movement had an increase in follower by at least 7 to 8 Dillon people since 2019. He start to explain the the anti vaccine movement is being promoted on social media such as YouTube, Facebook, and many others. The CCDH had calculated that the anti vaccine movement could grasp at least 1 billion in US$ just from the social media firm. They go on to talk about a survey that was created by the CCDH. This survey was to see what British people will chose when it come to taking the SARS-CoV-2(severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). What they found with this survey was that one in six British people agree to being vaccinated with it.

The article stated “In August, 2020, Facebook deleted a video posted by the US President, Donald J Trump, in which he suggested that children were “almost immune” to SARS-CoV-2”. This was taken down so to that fact the it was wrong information and could lead to misunderstanding for people. This lead to twitter suspending his account. This was not the only problem. There was multiple misleading information about COVID-19 going around the internet. Social media try there best to stop it but was unable to get all. Vish Viswanath  Professor of Health Communication in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health had something to say about this. He said “They are making some tentative steps, but it is insufficient. It is not adequate to simply flag inappropriate posts; people will still read them and we know that even if a falsehood is labelled as such, people will still remember it, and some people will believe it” He believe that the platform are unable to act quickly when it come to this topic.

The article was very informed about the anti vaccinate movement during mordent times. The article writes about the bro how anti vaxxer and people or are pro Jax feel about the topic. It show how people react to what going on now with this whole pandemic. The information. It show fact after fact that cam to conclusion after survey and asking around. It also explain the action that are being taking by people. For explain when it talked about Trump. Something I agreed with in this article was Vish Viswanath statement. I also believe that social media did  bad job at containing this surge of misleading information.

Some of the quotes that stood out to me were:

“De-platforming makes me nervous”

“Groups such as the CCDH deserve a great deal of credit for calling attention to this issue, and adopting such a combative attitude”
