- In addition to your notes + sketches, prepare the following and be ready to discuss next class:
- Find a building near you that uses brick masonry at its exterior walls
- Photograph the building and try to identify if the building is using the brick as a primary structural material, or if it is only a veneer
- Pay close attention to the brick bonding (which type of bonding is used?)
- Also pay careful attention to the openings (arches? lintels? something else?)
- Post your photo and assessment to Miro by Friday 3/11, 12pm
- Module I: Case Study Building – Final Drawings
- Complete Plan Geometry Diagram, First Floor Plan, Section, + Elevation drawings

- In class activity – Building with modules (1 hour)
- Each group shall design a small building that can fit on a 20′ x 20′ plot of land.
- The buildings can take up the whole lot, or only a portion of it, but all buildings must be at least 120 SF in floor area, and between 10′ and 15′ tall.
- Buildings shall be built using standard 8″ x 8″ x 16″ CMU blocks, with no cutting of blocks allowed (only full and half blocks).
- Buildings must have at least 2 doors and 2 windows.
- Deliverables include:
- 1 Floor Plan with key dimensions
- 4 Elevations with key dimensions
- All drawings at 1/2″ = 1′-0″ scale
- Each group shall design a small building that can fit on a 20′ x 20′ plot of land.
