This is a terrific annotated bibliography! For the next draft, I would like to see more work that focuses on the contemporary ritual of opera-going. The historical context is great. Now look for books and articles from a sociological or anthropological perspective — key words might include “class” “education” “highbrow” “leisure” “economics” (and of course ritual, pasttime, etc.).
