Sheena Delos Reyes Homework #2

What I find interesting during the civil war was that the soldiers cooked their food in the battle field as well as drank coffee to energize their body before and after they march. As what have been mentioned in the article, civil war food for both union and confederates was supplied by the commissary departments and the food that they served was uncooked or did not really taste good or it was not healthy.  These soldiers did not have any experience in cooking their own meal during this time so they did not really have a choice.  They did cook their food in the battlefield but they did not probably know how their food would taste like.  In good season, they were fed unsalted beef or pork, coffee, or sometimes dried fruit. In hard times, they only ate hardtack which was a type of bread made from unleavened flour and water so that they wont get hungry.  But all in all, they’d rather drink coffee to really energize their body.

If I were to choose between food and coffee, I would choose to have food rather than coffee.  I palpitate if I drink too much coffee so i’d choose food.  What kind of food? Korean fried chicken and ice cream as well. Rocky road flavor to be specific! 🙂
