I found the themes that Robert Frank’s photography displayed as very artistic and somewhat political but they weren’t really bleak because, in his adventures of exploring the Americas, he ended up showing American’s the sides that they didn’t see. He was really trying to understand and explore how an individual relates to a nation as a whole, but through his journey, he ended up showing America a whole new side with the harsh reality. In some photographs, he was really able to show how united the nation is, but he was also able to capture how divided and segregated the nation is in other photographs. As a young Jew, at the time didn’t really have any experience with skin color racism till he went to the south and the racial segregation hit him hard and I feel that he did an amazing job capturing it and giving it right back to the people of America that go on living their everyday life ignoring all those racial problems. But his themes of the ordinary people, religion, politics, and so much more were really captured in an artistic way because even to this day we see these problems as well.
