iii. 3D model views (at least 3 views extracted from the 3d model)
all major structural elements should be included no walls nonstructural walls required (you’re welcome to do a second 3-D massing which shows the wall) include an outline showing how the penthouse is located compared to the rest of the building.

Please model all the slabs, columns and other structural components.

Some strategies to consider:
Import your AutoCAD file into your rhino model with your gridlines.
Use the gridlines to extrude your columns
Attach the section to the back of your drawing determine the height of the columns.
Use additional images of floorplans to support developing the other floors.
Your primary reference should be the section perspective and the project photographs.
In your pictures express your understanding of the building structure and its floor levels.
Add your pictures as attachments to a new AutoCAD sheet.

Picture in to Rhino

Hello professor, the section image that I’ve been using on autocad wont download properly on rhino it keeps appearing black everytime.

I would try importing the picture into one of the orthogonal views like front or right as opposed to the perspective you that may help. Also consider reducing the size of the Image file. There might be a loading error if you AutoCAD file has the same image referenced into the drawing, remove the image from the attached AutoCAD file in your drawing 3-D model.

Question:
On Monday you spoke about a submission for today to include PDFs for site plan, structural plan and floor plan. I was not seeing an area in blackboard to do the submission.

Additionally, Prof A(ptekar) mentioned on Thursday to include the column grid lines on the floor plan and you (Prof. Ronfini) had stated otherwise. As such I wanted to seek clarity as to how it is supposed to be done and if we are still to make a submission this evening.

  • The Assessment appears on my blackboard? If anybody else is having trouble with us please let us know right away.
  • You may submit floor plan with or without Gridline for full credit. I recommend including them on your floor plans.

3 Auto CAD files

Your submittal should consist of three auto CAD files as follows:

  1. Site Maps
  2. Structural Grid

iii. Floor Plan (varies depending on the level you are doing)

For the “Site Maps” part import three different map image files at three different scales.

Student assignment A2 question

Do you want us to do 3 separate 3D files for each floor plan or do we make them and just join them all at once under one file?

You should have one 3-D model file or 2-D drawing which is a projection. Place a view of the 3-D model on to your title block and print the 3-D view with title block as a pdf as part of your submission.

You may for extra credit include other views of your models of the case study project.  But first focus on the accuracy and depth of information on your required submissions.

CAD lines going all over the place

Question: Why are my lines going all over the place when I switched to pay-per-view from model?

Your model space drawings were created with three-dimensional information, you are actually drawing in a 45° view. So when you switch to a straight top view in your paper space view the drawing became distorted. Notice the view orientation boxes in the top right-hand corner.

Working plane set at 45°

Working plane set at “TOP” or plan

Note you should dimension the grid lines not the column widths in your grid drawing.
