Class Info

  • Date: Wednesday, May 22, 2024
  • Meeting Info: 6:00pm – 9:20pm, Room P121
  • Class will end before 9pm so please try to arrive on time.

1 – Quiz #4

We got off track with the quizzes. Since your final grades are based on 4 quizzes we have to do the last quiz on May 22. Please make sure you are familiar with the the information related to the last 2-3 weeks of the course. The quiz will be in the same format as the others and will probably only take about 15-20 minutes to complete (or less for some of you).

2 – Alter Ego Poster

The last time we met, we reviewed the alter ego projects. There were some really good ones. We discussed the next step was to create a poster, which includes a title and a few sentences from the backstory that you wrote up. The instructions are as follows:

  • Go back and read the directions for the alter ego assignment. Make sure you followed the directions, including writing your backstory and creating a title for that personality.
  • After reviewing your alter ego image make any corrections or adjustments that need to be made. Some suggestions were made in class last week. It is up to you to make the revisions. It can only help you get a better grade.
  • Save the image as a print-ready file and save a copy as a web-ready file. We reviewed this in class. If you missed that demo, you can find a tutorial on YouTube.
  • Once your file is revised, place it in InDesign or Illustrator to create a final poster. The size of the poster will be 11×17. In class we reviewed how to create a new file in InDesign, add a photo and type. If you missed that demo, you can find a tutorial on YouTube.
  • Add a few lines of your “back story” to the poster along with the title or logo. Make a pleasing layout.
  • Save the file with the following name: 14_Lastname_AlterEgoPoster. PDF
  • After you have finished with the poster, you will PACKAGE the file. Packaging will save the fonts and all of the graphic elements of a file. It is the way you would share the file with someone else, like a printer, who might have to the work on the file after you.
  • Save a jpeg version of the file for use on the web. The resolution should be 72ppi.
  • Save this jpeg file in a folder along with your finished packaged file.
  • Upload this finished work folder to  this Google Drive folder.

3 – Your Digital Vector Portrait

This should have been created from a selfie. We reviewed how this would be done during the last class. If you missed the last class, see the YouTube video at the end of the OpenLab Post for Class 14. You should upload this final project to the Google Drive folder after you name it: 15_LastNameFirstNameInitial_portrait.ai

This project is done in Illustrator and should still be in layers when you submit it. DO NOT submit a flattened file. You will not get full credit for that.

4 – All Missing Homework and In-Class Assignments

As previously mentioned, everything done in class is IMPORTANT. Anything that is missing can’t be counted toward your grade.

  • Have you answered all of the Discussion questions? If not, now is the time to get those done. They add into your grade for class participation.
  • Have you submitted all the in-class work? If not, now is the time to get those done. They add into your grade. If you’re not sure, check all the folders for HOMEWORK, CLASSWORK/LAB and PROJECTS.
  • Have you submitted all of the projects and homework assignments? If not, now is the time to get those done. They add into your grade. It is difficult to pass this course if the main projects aren’t completed. The main projects are:
    • Mid-Term Project – the Disney Poster
    • Final Project – the Alter Ego image and poster
    • the Composite (big part of homework projects)
    • the Vector Self Portrait which we will review on this last day of class (big part of class participation and added to help boost your grade)

Anything outstanding must be submitted by Saturday, May 25 by 11:59 pm. I’m extending grace because I’ve been slow in giving some feedback, but I can’t extend anything after that.

If you revise any of your work and resubmit it, please put it in this REVISED WORK folder so I know to reevaluate that project.

How is the Work Weighted?

  • 10% — Participation (Attendance, In-Class Work, Critiques, etc)
  • 10%–Discussion Questions (2 each week for 14 weeks)
  • 20% — Quizzes (4 quizzes, 5% each)
  • 60% — (4 Major Projects, 15% each) – Disney Poster, Composite, Alter Ego (with poster), Vector Self-Portrait

TOTAL — 100%

If you have any questions about any of this, you should contact me.
