Using Photoshop and Illustrator Files in InDesign

Today, we will discuss using Photoshop and Illustrator files in InDesign.

  • How the files are prepared to use for printing (review)
  • How the files are prepared to use for the web (review)
By dragging guides in the file you can see the print area of your work.

Topic #2

  • During this 2nd part of the class today we will begin to working on the Vector Self-Portrait drawing. We will begin by reviewing one of the video tutorials at the bottom of this page.
  • The process is very similar to how you created the vector Disney poster drawing. The difference is that you will be adding your own drawing style to it. It is due FINISHED next week, May 22nd. We will review them all.

Critique

Each week we will review homework assignments from the previous class. Students will display their “Alter Ego” Posters. The class will discuss the value of Masking Techniques.

Lab

Lab assignments are done during class time.

  • After reviewing your alter ego image make any corrections or adjustments that need to be made.
  • Once your file is revised, prepare it to be use in InDesign or Illustrator to create a final poster. Save the file as a print-ready file.
  • Also save a copy of the file as a web-ready file.
  • Add a few lines of your “back story” to the poster along with a title.
  • Save the file with the following name: 14_LastnameFirstInitial_AlterEgoPoster. PDF
  • Save this file in a folder along with your finished web-ready image.
  • Package the file so that all of your elements are saved to one folder.
  • Upload your finished work to Google Drive.

Discussion

Each week you will need to respond to two questions posted. This is a requirement for the participation part of your grade.

Homework Due Next Class (May 22nd)

  • QUIZ #4 – We got behind with the quizzes after the 2nd one so we will have the last one next week. Please arrive on time. The class will end before 9:20pm.
  • ALL work should be submitted by 5:00pm before class.
  • Any work that you want to resubmit should be prepared. Name that file with the correct name from the week that it was due and add “_REVISED” at the end.

During class today we will get a chance to begin working on the portraits. Please finish and submit to the Google Drive folder. We will review in class next week. Name the file: 14_LastNameFirstInitial_portrait.ai
