In preparation for your first quiz, please review the questions at the end the first 2 chapters of your textbook. The quiz will be next Friday, Feb 28st. The quiz will cover chapters one and two in your text, as well as our discussions during class.
The quiz will NOT cover section 2.7 (to the end of the section) on color, so you can exclude the color topics. The color quiz will be later in the semester. You should know the following terms/concepts for the first quiz:
- Analog
- Digital
- Sampling
- Quantization
- Binary (Base 2)
- Bit Depth
- Byte
- Pixel
- Resolution
- Lossy Compression
- Lossless Compression
- Vector
- Raster
- All Bitmap File formats
- All Vector File Formats
You must know the file formats in Tables 2.1 (Common File Types of Bitmapped or Pixel-Based Images) and 2.2 (Common File Types of Vector Graphics). Review the questions at the end of chapters 1 and 2. You will likely see versions of these questions on your quiz.
It is NEVER wise to miss a quiz even if you haven’t fully prepared for it. Each quiz will add on to your final grade. There will be a brief Q & A/review before we begin each quiz. The quiz will be begin at 8:30am right after the short Q & A session. So plan to arrive on time for class or you will miss the review.
- Projects/ Visually Enhanced Quotation
- For our next class meeting on, Friday, February 21, please have your 2 concepts with any additional concepts to show the class. Try to have the concepts done in the computer in addition to sketch format. Please upload these to drop box in Blackboard for all concepts. I will create a new drop box for next week so you can upload the final concept to that drop box. You can take a picture of your sketches using your phone. Your visual quote project will be designed for a print postcard and should be 8.5” X 5.47”. It can be designed either landscape or portrait but be sure to design your concepts with this trim size in mind. Review the website for conceptual examples of visually enhanced quotations (they are at a different size ). If you are sketching your concepts, be sure to use a paper sized at 8/5 X 5.47, either portrait or landscape to do your project. I’d like to see your sketch first before executing your designs on the computer. When you use Indesign to present the quote concepts, be sure to set up your document to the size specified in Indesign and use the print layout template. See this site for specific instructions on how to create the PDF files from Indesign. If you are not familiar with Indesign, see the free tutorials on Adobe programs at http://tv.adobe.com and http://www.lynda.com/home/freeTraining.aspx.
- I will be reviewing your bios and sending them back to you. You can then refine them and tweak your copy to remove grammatical errors, misspellings, etc. Hand in the 2nd draft on February 21st.
- I will also be returning your logo research to you for updating also. The 2nd draft is due February 28th.
